Default loud exhaust after swap

i finally got my swap done in my hf. when i bought the car i came with some cheap no-name brand fat exhaust. it sounded good when i just had the Hf motor but now that the b16 is in it is so damn loud. the idle is so low pitched that it hurts my ears after sitting in it for a little while. also now when i accelerate it sounds like a week wacker and when driving on the highway at 4000 RPMs it is also loud as hell. is there anything i can do to make it a little quieter or do i just need to suck it up and get used to it?

P.s. i put that silencer thing in and i don't think it did anything.
also i had new piping put in by the local muffler shop to fit the stock b16 manifold.
thanks for the help

it will help all of the above. not sure on cost since it varies from shop to shop. search google for a resonator and see what you come up for prices. also check http://www.jcwhitney.com i think they have some... and BTW get a cat on your car...that will help too.

what is the difference between a resonator and a high flow cat? is one of the ones off of ebay alright or do i just as the muffler shop to see what they have? is there a big difference between a regular cat and a racing cat, i know its probably less restrictive but is it significantly better. im about to call the muffler shop but i want to know what i need to tell them to do.
thanks for the help so far.

A resonator basically is just a widened pipe which Sound-mindedly should sit between your Catalytic Converter and Muffler. The resonator rebounds the sounds inside the sides of the resonator and cancels it out as the flow keeps heading out to the muffler.

Resonators won't cost you alot. Magnaflow Muffflers (2" or 2.5" in/out) usually run $60-$70 depending where you get it from.
