Well, actually there is a method to your madness, sort of.
Denatured alcohol is the main ingredient in fuel line cleaners and Dri-gas. As it absorbs water in the fuel system and breaks down gummy deposits.
But, "rubbing alcohol" is NOT 100% pure de-natured alcohol. So I wouldn't recommend it. Rubbing alcohol contains oils and lubricants for rubbing into human skin.
Not good for fuel systems.

Wouldn't Everclear be considered "sipping alcohol", not rubbing alcohol? LOL
And put mine in a dirty glass.

I always thought it was Methanol and/ or Nitro Methanol.
Good info in that link. But I had heard rubbing alcohol was different than the others. Because of the added ingredients

^^he is correct
When your car won't pass emissions, you can dump a bottle of de-natured alcohol into your tank and take it around the block and pass with flying colors on your next pass.
Ssshhh! Don't tell anybody.

How much denatured alcohol should I put in and how much gas should be in the tank. Then how long should I drive around before going back to the smog station.... Thanks.

When my buddy did it to his bug, he just used isopropyl rubbing alcohol. He used 2 bottles. You only want to run it long enough to start burning the alcohol. once around the block should be fine

Not at all, it just burns much cleaner than gasoline.

I have a quick and simple question.
How come I am hearing things like the lower the octane the better for emissions yet I'm hearing that denatured alcohol works wonders but isn't it basically an octane booster ?
Also would it be better to run the lowest octane gas with denatured alcohol or the highest octane gas.
Lets just say I'm doing a science experiment.
