Default Suggest good pair of 8's for the doors of my delsol.

Im going to make all the needed preperations for the doors, such as dynamat, sealing as much as i can from water but If you can suggest a pair of 8s that work in this evniroment that would be great. Im assuming something like free-air would be ideal, Am I right in this assumption?

JL is always a good choice if u have the $$ or you could get RF'S. the main problem would be finding some that arent too deep. whats the mounting depth of your doors? they also make baffle covers that act like a mini box and they'll protect from water

DEI makes a set of 8's that have the magnet mounted on the front of the speaker like a coxial has the tweeter mounted. They are only like 2.5" deep. That reminds me. I have a set in my storage I have been meaning to use for teh last 2 years.

JL IB's would be good, but good luck finding a pair in 8" size (there were some on ECA not too long ago) and they are 8 ohm each

What I would consider:
Morel WR-8
DLS Ultimate Iridium 8
IDQ8 DVC <----I'm selling a pair btw, IM me if you are interested

All work well in IB, the IDQ8's are Dual 4 ohm though, so you get double the power from your amp instantly - great drivers!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Im going to see what I can do. I think that ill take all the measurements and come back to the thread and go from there. Those ID drivers sound really nice. Ill take a look at those and see what we got.

Sorry - but the ID's are sold!!

There are lots of drivers out there that could work - but many are really expensive. If you don't have room for the 8"s you will find a larger selection in 7" sizes, and you will get damn near the same ammount of output. Just a sugestion.

Illusion Audio makes some great subs that were made for apps like that. Not only are they low profile, but they pound. They actually have slightly more excursion than JL w7's. They are also very light.

ummm....right ND-8's with more excursion then an 8W7....pass the dope over here cause I want a hit.

Illusion made them - I don't think you will find a new set anywhere....

They are excellent drivers though, and well suited for midbass...

I never looked at the 8's, so you may be right. All I know is that the 12's have 30 or 31 mm of excursion and 12w7's have 29. Although Illusion Audio doesn't specify whether that is linear excursion or not.

The illusions list peak to peak....

upon further inspection, here's their numbers:
http://www.illusionaudio.com/i....html

They claim their 12" to be 1.4" peak to peak = 0.7 in one direction = 17.8 mm in one direction...about on par with a ID12v3. Pretty impressive numbers for a driver that is only 3.25" deep...

one simple look at a W7 and a ND driver and you know which one moves further then the other. The ND's are SQ woofers that are known for not having much output.

My memory must be failing me. In any case, the stat I like the most on them is their weight; 12lbs. Good output/weight ratio.

I remember reading articles that used phrases like "A 10 with the output of a good 12." Those articles are at least a couple years old by now though. Before the release of the w7's and Idmax's. Man things change fast. It wasn't that long ago that 17mm was a lot of excursion. I'm getting old.

Ok, you guys are going to think I'm stoopid, but hear me out. Buy stock Volvo speakers that go in the C-70. The radio package is the SC-901. These are the most increadible 8" speakers I've heard in doors. By the way, they are made by Dynaudio. I don't know what they cost, but I know they are pretty thin.

Yeah, the DEI Studio 8's are really nice, i used to have a set a while back and i loved them. they are perfect for stuff like that too since they are really shallow (mounting depth)
