Hey guys I need some help......
Hello fellow H-t'ers, I am in the process of starting a project strip-only 89 crx and was wondering if I could get some help.
The first thing that I am going to focus on will be the car's body. I obtained the CRX with a nicely made 6 point cage, but thats it. Besides the rear interior removed the car is bone stock.
As for as my motor plans, those are not important now, but I do know that weight and traction will be VERY important.
What I would like to know is; where are my limits with weight reduction?
Here are the Obvious:
1. Remove all interior panels, carpet, etc.
2. Remove Dash and gut completely, reinstall shell with necessary components.
3. Remove all inner door removables, regulators and such.
4. Remove and replace all glass with 1/8"lexan.
5. Remove all A/C components and everything that is no longer needed underhood
6. Remove front and rear sway bars and bracketry, (or would I want to keep the front ?)
Ok, here it goes
What are my limits to cutting, trimming and replacing with sheet aluminum?
1. Can I replace the rear floorboard with sheet metal?
2. Where can I drill or cut to remove unwanted un needed weight?
3. In a CRX there is a large removable front sub-frame member that utilizes a front motor mount and the radius arms for the suspension. Can I loose this piece in favor of a set of tracton bars that would have their own radius type bars?
4. At which point (physical point)is it safe to cut the front radiator support out? How far back actually can i go? I would like to make my own radiator support, and loose all necessary metal up front. Please help me with this.
5. Since this is not a street driven car, are there any rear suspension components that I can loose in favor of weight loss?
I am unfamilliar with this non-street type of racing, and hope to gain knowledge from you all here. I have been reading for some time, but mostly read about people who are far past the beginning stages.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys!
