Default instrument cluster / speed sensor compatibility ???

I have a question as suscribed in the topic.

There are 3 types of cluster (known by me): 2.0 (european version), 2.2 vtec, 2.3.

Can you mix them and keep real real distance measurement?

For those who will instantly say "yes, you can": phisically it works, but the readings are not true: With a friend we have installed a 2.0 cluster into 2.2 vtec car and visually it seems the kilometrage measured by the cluster is +20% up to reality. Maybe 2.0 speed sensor is different of 2.2 vtec ???

And what about putting a 2.2 vtec cluster into a 2.3 car?
