Does it sound like a pully/bering of maybe somthing fell down there or it may be a water pump wearing noise? too many possible things it could be.

I had that noise near timing belt too,
i traced it to the water pump, water pump bearing worn out, so the gear wobble. timing belt was hitting on the cover. when the wobble got worse, I stop driving the car.

If it is the water pump pully about to break you should also stop driving it before it does because then you will have worse problems for sure.

there are some 10 mm bolts on the side. there is a top and bottom part to it. to get the top off you need to loosen the valve cover. to get the bottom off you need to remove the crank pulley bolt. good luck.

it might also be your alternator because i had the same problem and i replaced my timing belt and alternator since it did need a new one and then after that it stop making that noise

Do you have a/c? My a bearing on the pully on the a/c on my car went bad so it sounded like the car was going to blow up. I couldn't figure out what it was, it sounded like it was coming from under the timing belt cover. Alittle trial and error and when i took off the belt for the a/c the noise quit! So yeah check that out.

Intermitted valve tap? My B16 has this. just make surre it is not coming from the valve cover.
