Total A-x-ing noob, susp. questions
Ok guys. I'm getting a little tired of drag racing ( the whole "fast cars, fast drivers" saying is getting to me, hehe ).
My car is already turbocharged, and has a great lag free WRX turbo on it. So power is no prob. ( more than enough to over power my X-ing abilites ).
I'm lining up to buy some 99-00 Si wheels that have some toyo proxes on them, so the first set wheels and tires are "set" ( I currently have CRX si wheels with 3 year old Comp. TAs ).
Well... My civics suspension is shot. If it wasn't I would just beat on the car like this for a while to get used to driving the car in the auto-Xing form. But as it is the car rides like I "cut" the springs, and the wheels hope pretty hard when hitting even mild bumps at 30-60mph.
Like I said, its shot.
I'm not looking to beat every car in the feild, but this isn't my daily driver, and I'd bet even a "hardcore" auto-X-ing susp. would feel much better than my current "bust setup".
My buget is limited though, so $1000 coil overs aren't an option.
My civic is and will always be "full weight", say 2100-2200 LBS. ( no A/C, and a lot of wasteful think removed ).
Just looking for some suggestoins as to what I should start with. Again, if my suspension wasn't "shot" I'd just leave it be.....
And a few "side questions" regaurding energy Suspensions bushing.
#1 are they worth it.
#2 are they really nasty to install ? ( I built my turbo system from junkyard parts by myself on my carport, so I'm sure I can do it ).
LSD is a little far in the future. I have my DX tranny and a Si tranny to break first, hehe.

New bushings, New shocks, new fluids. Fix all the busted **** then start upgrading
See if your region offers a novice school

Just didn't seem to make sense to replace eveything with stock like stuff, when I could of had better "upgraded" stuff with the just a little more money spent.
$500 for new x-ing stuff or $350 for new OEM replacement stuff....
I need to check into how much the notice seasons/schools cost b/c I'm kinda cheap and I'd rather learn a lesson by going to 10 local Solo2 events vs 2 $$$$ sessions.... Call it dumb I guess, but I like to drive....
I'm just looking to have a little funny, not join the national X-ing team and hope to win the X-ing superbowl....
Drag racing will prob. be 75% of my foucs still, but Auto-x-ing on the side sounds like fun, but I'm not looking to be the worlds next champ or anything.
I reallize that eductaion is good, but funding is an issue, and I'd rather buy car parts, then sit though a class....
Maybe I should inroll in a drag racing class too, hehe ( J/K ).

Is the poly really an upgrade though? They wont last as long...

The schools will be the best $$ spent in terms of improving the driver, which is ultimately the most important thing - and you will probably get the same (or more) seat time than if you'd spent it on events.

There's not much 'sitting' at all at most autocross schools. Lots of seat time, and lots of hands on with direct feedback.

If you are going to do 75% drag racing and 25% autocross, then don't bother asking us what your suspension setup should be. Ask the drag guys and recognize that your ax setup will be compromised.
But, if you want my advice - don't spend any money on a suspension. You said you are on a limited budget so spend your money on seat time. You will be much faster much quicker by spending $300 on 2 Evolution schools then by spending $600 on a set of Konis.
Regards,
Alan

This sounds to me like you probably need new shocks. I'd replace them, but I wouldn't jump to replace all the bushings just yet. The stock bushings really are pretty good, so I'd recommend carefully inspecting all of them, and unless they're in really bad shape, leave them be.
As far as replacing the shocks, it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and get Koni yellows. They are a direct replacement for stock shocks (using stock springs), and they'll provide an excellent foundation for building on if you decide to go further. Then if try autocross for a while and decide it isn't your thing, you could probably sell them for enough to cover new stock shocks. The main downside to the Konis is that you're probably looking at at least $500 for a new set.

You guys made some good points ( $300 classes will most deffinatly come in handy a lot more then a set of shocks ).
I maybe a 75% drag race kinda guy, but my car is a street driven car and I'd like it handle VERY well. If the ETs suffer a little bit, that's fine, I'm not out to smack down any Z06s ( at least in my civic, hehe TT stealth owner too ).
I maybe just replace a few parts with some cheap-o OEM replacemnt kinda deals ( cheap is better than busted ). Of course not $20 cheap.
