Do JDM ECUs communicate with OBD2 scantools?
People buying JDM swaps that are "OBD2" seem to expect that this swap will pass emmisions in an USDM OBD2 chassis while trying to use the JDM ECU.
The short answer to "Will I pass with an OBD2 JDM ECU" is NO. Trying to use my scantool on a supposed OBD2 JDM ECU yeilded nothing but communication errors. And it really pissed off this member because he expected that when emmisions came due, he could roll into the station, get hooked up to the scanning machine and be done with it.....but this just ain't gonna happen.
So this is a FYI to the people looking to use JDM ECU's in an USDM OBD2 chassis and expect to pass emmisions....it ain't gonna happen.

I wonder if anyone has a japenese ETM and can read it. Maybe they have the pins moved around?

To my knowledge, JDM OBD2 ECUs work like OBD1, just different plugs.
