Default 1999 Honda civic si vtec engagement problem

Ive noticed a vtec engagement problem in my car. When travelling around a semi-sharp to sharp turn either left or right, my car will not engage vtec until the stress in relieved from either the right or left tire. Vtec normally engages right at 5500 rpm, but when taking turns fast in my car I have had vtec engage as late as 7000rpm (when car straightened out and stress was off of tire). The car engages vtec right at 5500rpm when travelling straight so no problems there. If anyone has ever had this problem or can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks
