Finished DIY Painting The Whip. Now What?? Wetsand? Compund? Wax? Need help!
So Im broke and decided that the 1500 I had set aside for paint would go towards helping my mom pay the rest of her lawyers bills and some more go for my car. (Azenis and a zex kit)
So I spray painted my car. I used 8 cans of duplicolor wheel paint because it was the perfect color and it looks like real car paint.
After the paint was laid (3coats) I went through 3 cans of coat.
Honestly I dont know if I did enough clear coat, just because they way it shoots out, it comes out like a cloud and you cant tell if its sticking or whatever, but I went around the car twice. Good? Do it again?
Well it turned out sick for a DIY $85 paint job but when I was all done this afternoon it didnt have that perfect glass finish, was a little rough.
Wetsanding fixes this right? Well I dont want to wetsand and be fucked over because I didnt clear coat.
Also because I rattle canned it I want to make it shine more and get rid of all the little scratches, I hear compound or something is good for this? How is it applied? I dont have a machine so it will have to be done by hand.
Also wax, Ive never waxed a thing in my life, how is it done by hand and what a good brand and technique?
Any ideas to help me out of my trouble and very inexpensive paint will be greatly appreciated. Im glad I didnt spend all the money on the paint so I want have to dry when it gets keyed/stolen/chipped, just go buy a new can of paint lol
Thanks

No camera, after I finished clearing I let it dry to the touch in the garage before I put it outside so **** wouldnt fall on it and stick, let its burn in the sun for about 45 min til my ride came and then left.
It looked pretty good, just want something to make it shine and remove some scratches, and because it is spraypaint, something to protect it

we have a really old car that i was thinking about lightly sanding down at my dads shop and using a couple cans of that auto primer and then using some duplicolor on it and then clear coating... do you think its worth it?
its just another extra but its paint is roughed up on the hood, roof, truck, fenders, i took out minor dents thats when i got the idea to paint it... should i or not?
its a 91 lexus es250.

rubbing compund and wetsanding with 1500-2000 grit would be enough to get rid of the surface imperfections but make sure you have enough coats of paint/clear on there before I would go on.
Ya man its definetely worth it, like Ive seen rattle can jobs before and they mostly looked like ****, then I asked what paint the used and most said the cheapest they would find.
I bought the Duplicolor Gunmetal Metallic Wheel paint and its really is metallic and looked sick, took 2 coats to cover everything to have no primer showing through and the third was because I had leftover paint and I might as well eh.
I think Im going to go back on wednesday and give it more clear coat, it cant hurt it but I dont wanna start over.
But what are some good techniques for compound, I dont even know what it is or how its applied or whatever
same thing with wax

dont wax a fresh paintjob.
if you have clearcoat on there you can wetsand it and buff it out. Might be easier to pay someone to buff it for you seeing as you have never even waxed(no offense) It is easy to burn through paint with a buffer if you dont know what your doing

wow bud me and you think alot alike.. i was also planning on rattle canning my accord with the duplicolor gunmetal metallic.. even though nothing beats a nice custom color paintjob.. just dont have the money for that right now.. im sure u have a buddy that has a diggy cam.. take some pics and we can all see the result.. because i am very serious about doing this myself!.. just for the satisfaction..
also.. i heard that just using that rattle can basic automotive clear coat is that wrong idea!! (so ive heard).. i was told to goto an automotive/industrial paint shop.. as in where u buy actual automotive colours.. for a real paint job.. anyways.. i was told to buy the REAL clear coat there and have them put the clear coat IN rattle cans for you.... and im sure most places would do that!.. because apparently the basic cheap clear ****.. is crap and will fade quickly if exposed to the sun for periods.. the REAL auto clear coat doesnt do that!.. (this is what ive heard from ppl that do this as a career.. so im sure they are making a good point!
