Default Is it okay to use Synthetic gear oil?

I have a 94 honda prelude and i'm a lil worried about the tranny. I know in 94's it's bad to use synthetic motor oil for the engine, but does the same apply for the tranny? I doubt it but I just want to make sure. I want to make sure it's protected really good. Also what rating would I use? I see all these numbers on the gear oil 80W, 75W yadda yadda yadda. Which one do I use.

It's not bad to run synth in the motor. But is in the tranny. You should use synchromesh MTF or Honda MTF. Not a heavy gear oil.

syn oil's only bad for higher mileage cars because of its ability to flow in places that you don't want it to flow.

i think he's talking about the gear oil you use in a rear end. that stuff is way too heavy to use in the transmission.

So exactly what grade do I use though? As I said I saw gear oils going from 75-90w?

You don't use a gear oil in the tranny.

Use either 10w30 motor oil, or something like GM Syncromesh.

haha you guys are full of misinformation..

yes you can use synthetic 75w90 in your transmission.. I just ordered Amsoil 2000 series for the tranny in my h23a1..

In some engines with excessive wear switching to synthetic motor oil might cause a little leakage, but will usually go away after a while.. Chances are you will be fine.

i use 85w140 in the rear end for my truck, but that stuff is too thick to even get into the prelude's transmission without some assistance.

the manual AND dealer recommend 10w-30 MOTOR OIL NOT gear oil. although you may be fine using 75w90 gear oil but if you want to put that much stress on your tranny that is up to you.

What misinformation? Honda says to use 10w30. That's mis-info right there?
