SAFC or Jet Chip
i have a 94 teg RS (mods listed in sig)
i was wondering which mod would show more worth while, in terms of power and efficiency?
thanks for your feedback - also any ideas where to mount the SAFC? i know there have been many pics of that but i was curious to see if any place new has come up
thanks again

Well, lemme try to help.
A JET chip, or any chip for that matter won't do anything for our cars. Unless you have a high-revving N/A motor or a pretty high boosting turbo setup, a chip won't do anything. Our cars are pretty optimized from the factory and there are only a few timing alterations and fuel curves you can change. It won't give you any more power though.
Even a S-AFC right now isn't worth it. By the looks of your signature, your car is stock. Your i/h/e doesn't really do anything to make it "not stock." Changing your MAP sensor voltage (to fool the car into adding/taking out fuel) won't do anything for your car right now. It'll probably make it run worse. I'd save up a bit more and invest in something a little more worthwhile.
What are your plans for the car? Do you eventually want to go turbo? All motor?
EDIT: If I were you, and had about $300 to spend, since that's about the price of the things you listed.......
If you wanted to stay all motor, I'd invest in some cams maybe. Probably would have to save a bit more though. If you wanted to go turbo, you could start piecing together some turbo parts. Or you could get yourself a nice clutch.
Not flaming you or anything, just offering some advice. Your two choices in your poll aren't the best things for you right now.....and probably never will be.

I know someone who picked up 8whp from tuning and all he had on his ITR was an intake.
A jet chip is pretty worthless, but an actual tuning tool can show gains even on a bone stock car.
On that note I would go with an e-manage, so you can actually adjust ignition timming. When you modify the map voltage it also changes the ignition timming, so with the AFC even if you get your fuel curve in the right range you still have your ignition timming all over the place.

I see your point, but the poster doesn't have an ITR. He has a 1995 non-Vtec RS.
I had an LS a while ago and there isn't much you can do to it....except turbo it. Hehe.
Don't get me wrong though, you probably can and will extract a few wheel horsepower out from slight tuning. I just don't think the money spent on an S-AFC or a Jet chip would justify the 2-5whp he's going to gain. Plus, I'm sure he's not going to personally tune it himself....and that will cost extra money as well.
Yes, I agree with your E-manage suggestion. Also maybe Hondata. Anything where you can adjust your timing tables (even in boost) will be good in the long run.

I have a non-vtec RS and picked up 10whp from tuning
All motor, and made much more torque/power than a modified GSR at the same shop, and an average 10-20whp more than a bolt on ITR up until my redline.
Granted I have a little more done than boltons, but I still see possible gains from tuning. Even more so if he was willing to do cam gears as well.
It depends on how far he wants and is willing to go. For those who don't want to do internals, but still want more power, the only thing left is tunning. Though I agree if he plans on doing cams, etc later on don't bother getting it tuned now.

thanks for the replies but im not really looking to do anything internally for the simple fact that my car now has 188,xxx miles and its a daily driver and reliability is a huge issue
just was wondering if these things were worth while or not - guess not! lol

Did you read StyleTEG's posts? A piggy-back controller is certainly worthwhile if you have it correctly dyno-tuned, but if you don't plan on properly tuning it, then you shouldn't bother with one.
You may also want to look into Uberdata, which will give you more comprehensive tuning capabilities for virtually the same cost (if not cheaper) than a traditional piggy-back. It will require a bit more DIY work and a tuner who knows how to use the software, but it's another good option nevertheless.

it can help you now and later! you can leave it stock now and tune with it later. anything that allows you to tune your vehicle is always worth it. things like chips that come pretuned/premapped are pretty much useless.

you'll probabkly see some decent gains with an AFC or some other tool, stock our engine's run pretty rich at WOT, so you would probably pick up somepower throughout your range and get better mileage as well.
