Default VTEC Nightmare!!!

Please help stop my VTEC Nightmare!!!

I have a 94 JDM GSR into my 92 Civic CX Hatch with a P72 A01 ECU. Vtec is not working and I am throwing code 21 (vtec solenoid). I ran a 12 volt power source to the vtec solenoid and it clicks so that works. I ran a wire from the ecu to the vtec solenoid so a short is ruled out. I unbolted the vtec solenoid and cleaned the screen. My oil pan does not have any dents in it. My oil is clean and up to the proper level on the dip stick. With the wire ran from the ecu directly to the vtec solenoid I reset the ecu and the code will go away and stay off until I bring the car up to 5500 rpm. Right where vtec should engage and then bang cel 21 in my face again.

I have searched almost every topic relating to this issue and I am out of ideas.

Please help!

sounds like its not wired up properly.

theres lots of posts on that here,
but there are 3 wires you have to run

Thanks for the diagram, I have seen it before though. I have triple checked the wiring.

TAD: There is only one wire from the vtec solenoid. That is the code that I am throwing. As I stated earlier I ran a wire from the vtec solenoid to pin A4 on the ECU.

A new VTEC slnd could be the problem. However, I've had the same problem with a USDM P13 running my h22a. Turned out that the ECU was chipped and the chipped was messed up.

Gunns : open your ECU and checked if it was chipped already. I'ts kinda long shot but worth having a look.

I went through the same BS as you and wasted many HT members time... my problem was the ecu being shitty. Try a friends ecu. Good luck.

on my ls/vtec engine the vtec wouldn't engage and it turned out that my main bearings where bad and i had to have the bottom end rebuilt. then it worked prefect.

Verify you have oil pressure. We banged our heads against the wall for a week only to find out the oil pick-up(inside the oil pan) was clogged. Also check the port to the solenoid as well, sometimes it can get clogged, too.

the oil pressure is what engauges vtec "oil pressure" oil pressure switch check it out.

are you sure your wire is tapped into the ecu properly? Hook a multimeter up to the wire coming out of the ecu, and drive around having a friend see if your getting a signal coming out of the ECU. If you didn't use stock honda wires and pigtails, you probably don't have a good connection.

id check the oil pressure on the car. i believe the engine has to have at least 55-60 psi of oil pressure to hit vtec. correct me if im wrong any one
