Default what are signs of a clutch failing??

recently my clutch is starting to chatter, kinda like when you let the clutch out and not giving it enough gas.

is this the clutch going bad or flywheel??

thanks

The only time (that i know of) that the clutch is going is when it starts to slip. You could do a test where your going 5mph and put it in 4th gear and if the car stalls (or goes, i cant remember) then you have a good clutch.

That chatter noise you heard could be your tranny or your flywheel.

Drive about 20 mph and put it in 5th... get on the gas.. .if it revs up and spins outta gear, ur clutch is going. If it doesnt pull and holds, then it is ok.

Put it in 3rd gear, apply the e-brake. Rev it up as to take off and when you let the clutch out, try to keep the car running. If it stalls - need new clutch. If it doesn't stall and you aren't spinning the tires - it's fine.

It pulls out of gear and rev's like your in neutral... basically the engine spins but the wheels dont' because of the weak connection at the clutch.

I think solobsessin has it in reverse. If your car stalls your clutch is good if the motor continues to run while your ebrake is on and your not doing a burnoutlike a **** your clutch is bad.....

the chatter is caused by worn out springs in the clutch disc hub....period. THe chatter is just the pulsing of the engine, as it is not dampened by the sprung hub anymore.

You should be fine...just let the engine rev higher when riding the clutch to allow more slippage on intial start.

No need to damage the clutch worse by trying to MAKE it slip...if it was slipping, you'd know it

if the clutch slips then its going but can still be used if its not to bad mine slips when i flat shift. but clutch chatter means most likly the presure plate the springs broke in my gsr once and u knew it was f**ked thats what was wrong but if u can still drive then maybe just warring out,.
