Which engine would be better?
Ok well about two weeks ago my engine just shut off while I was running it and then I found out the compression in all 4 cylinders was around 60-65 (needing to be 150). Now I need a new engine for my '89 Crx Si. I'm not able to spend alot so I can't go for the b16 swap. I was thinking either the SOHC ZC or the D15b SOHC Vtech. Any thoughts on which would be better for my car or what problems I would run into doing either would be helpful for me to decide. Thanks
T3cH 9 when you said you could pick one up for like a bill, is that just a personal hookup or a site or something private? If possible I would like to check that out because I need to buy an engine by Tuesday
. I was also thinking the SOHC Vtech too. Something about those Vtech's that just draws me to em
. Thanks

ZC, sohc or dohc, both are a stock replacement, except the dohc you have to take 2 wires out of the dizzy and run them to the echaust cam sensor....whopdeedoo, simple swaps, cheap, and good bang for your buck.
for little rocket, I'd go with 89-91 bottom end (the strongest one of all D16), Y8 head and intake manifold, B series TB port matched to your intake, and some pistons. ( I think 89 integra would work nice)
The sohc zc is 118 hp and is 100% bolt in...easy, cheap(sub $500 for anyone off the street) and it looks stock, which is nice if you get hassled for smog, police or insurance.
The d15b...even with vtec, you'll have a hard time convincing me a smaller engine is better. In addition to the engine expense(about the same as the sohc zc) you'll have to purchase and install a compatible engine management. Basically, some way to activate vtec and fine tune the fuel delivery. Convert to obd-1 or 2, VAFC, rpm switch, custom rom edited ecu etc etc. This adds to the expense, difficulty and chances of you botching something during install.
A dohc ZC is nice but hard to find (a good one anyway) and we're really getting to the bottom of the barrel as far as supply. Expense is starting to climb again. Expect to pay $600-800.

zc for easy install, but if you can swing it d15b all the way http://www.soshinusa.com has them for 350, h-t member blown90hatch has a high quality obd-0 to obd-1 conversion harnesses for 150, find a d16z6 ecu 100 give or take
