You will need to get the old one pressed out / new one pressed in.

Since you got your answer and still bumped the post, here's what I think.

Hope that helps. Good luck with it.

you guys are dumbasses lol.

You can get the balljoint press tool from autozone. You should be able to buy a new balljoint too at an auto store but I could be wrong I never bought a balljoint before

depending on what year your car is ( which you didnt state ) the ball joint is held in place by a big c clip. You can remove the clip and rent a ball joint presser from you local auto parts store(most) and press it out yourself and install new ones in like minutes.

i actually have to replace my balljoint too. the nut popped off while driving and jammed the wheel into the fender well. tried lifting it onto a flatbed truck at first...the wheel kept sliding out. looked REAL painful. anyway, got it home, checked the damage. looks like all i have to replace is the axle and balljoint & nut. the axle joint broke at the transmission end.

i have a 92 civic si. how hard to remove/install the balljoint? do i need the tool, or can i just pop it off? (it's already separated from the lower arm. i just need to get the joint out.)

Read what people say, remove the clip and press it out with the tool, install is backwards.

take an airgun and drill that bitch on hardcore. That's what I did. The only downside is, next time you need to take it all apart again, you will have to change the balljoint.
