ok, i was just reading this freakish *** story bout how this guy went to jail for not having a CARB sticker on his comtech intake..

so im goin to lower my car 2 inches on a set of 205-40-17's.. this is on a 91 integra.. are my headlights goin to be fine/correct heigth?

 

if you live in **** california you dont really have to worry about CARB stickers. but if your all about legal 21" from the middle of your headlight housing to the floor.

 

Ok, I dont know about New Mexico regulations, but I believe if you stay within Cali regulations, you got to be safe ANYWHERE! Here is the cali laws.

I couldnt find jack on the N.M. State Police site. I believe as long as your car isnt lower than the LOWEST part of your rim, your cool. Thats how it is in Cali. But check your local laws to be safe.

Um, I think you'll be fine in lowering your car.

 

If you're that worried, measure your stock headlight height. Then do some math and figure out how much larger/smaller your new tires will be, and sbtract the 2" from the lowering. If you are still legal height, nothing to worry about.

the frame cant be lower than the lowest point on the rim.. what the hell does that mean? someone give me an example

the frame (IE: a sideskirt) can not be lower than the bottom of the rim (if you go to the bottom of the rim, there will be a tire)So if you go up from the ground from your car there will be Tire, Rim, Tire.... ok its 2 in the morning **** you.

and someone said in a chat room (cuz i was tryin to figure this out) that it is something like, it is 16-18 inches from the ground is the lowest it can go

and also, i should be fine if that rim and frame thing is affective over here right? cuz i have 17's in 205-40-17's and im doin a 2 inch drop..

this doesn't make any sense....because if i'm slammed on some 18"'s, my frame won't be below the lowest part of my rim. but if i'm slammed on some 14" steelies, then it'll be an inch below the lowest part of my rim.

stupid rule.

it's retarded anyway. the only reason why you shouldn't be able to go low is the fear that if you rearend someone, your bumper will slide right under there's, and you might get crushed. why else? (maybe that being really low, other cars aren't able to see you clearly enough?)

but then why allow those trucks to have 2 foot+ lift kits. if i was to rearend one of them (at stock height), their bumper would go right through my windshield, and i'd be killed.

I think it has to do with more the stabliity of the car rather then the fact that you'll go under a car or what not. Lower is not always better.

 

could be...couldn't really think of any other reason.

but stability? my car's much more stable, and handles much better since lowering.

 

cuz i've been thinking about this.. what about the mr2's, miata's, nsx's and the newer vette's.. those are pretty low to the ground stock, even the headlights.. so i dont see what the big deal is.. but i just want to double check. no offence to cany police people here, or people that have cops for dads, or whatever, but there ******** man.. its like there after you.. so busy to stop "street racing" and all that bull ****, that there layin off the criminal ****, like killings, shootings, stabbings, ?robbery's?, and all that. and after reading how they treat people in CA.. ****, im glad im down here.. but some are still ****** and can get away with it 99 percent of the time because there the "law".. and a judge would listen to them be4 they thought twice to listen to the innocent one...

and reading that story about that guy with the intake, and 4got the carb sticker.. and all that ****, that got me all scared. i dont see them stopping these american muscle ***** or those 4 foot lifted hill-billy trucks.. or stopping the people on the motorcycles for having the loud *** exhaust (chopper style bikes, harley davidsons). its like we all are put in one profile folder, and to be attacked on anything we do..

and like the speaker law... thats down here, you can only have 4 speakers in your car, and cant be over a certian wattage and all that bull ****, but i was watching car and driver and the new srt 10 dodge truck, has 8 speakers at 500 watts.. so whats up with that..

sorry guys, i had to blow off some steam, i wish we could fight it or they could make more places for "racing events" or hang out joints to just sit and chill, look at cars, and enjoy the sport/hobby that we are in. down here i see a **** load of old muscle car shows, and probably only 2 import car shows, that get broken up in about 1hr.

I've heard that frame and lowest part of the rim thing before. Also in california the center of the headlight must be in a height range, the min is 22" I think. So if you lower the car and the headlight's center measures less than 22", you are going to get tagged if they want to. Might want to check the website for the actual height, I can't really remember.

no they don't. And those cars are probably NOT lowered than that. Unless you've measured it... don't assume those cars are lower just because they look low. My lowered teg is around 1/4"-1/2" around that 22" marker. And if a NSX, Vette, Porsche or whatever is lower than that. Than they (the manufacturer) has done or proved what ever they needed to put that car on the market in the US. You will not get tagged for it, just like how you will never get a legit ticket for having OEM HIDs. But since YOU are lowering YOUR car, you have to stay within specific guidelines and you cannot compare it to other cars. Thats like saying turbo kits are street legal just because the WRX comes with a factory turbo.

so your saying i can get ticketed for my car being 2 inches lower than stock?

how many people here have gotten ticketed for there car being lowered? how low was the drop?
