Default Field VTEC Controller Settings......+13.4 hp???? +14.2 ft-lb????

Has anyone ever dyno'd a D16Z6 with I/H/E and vtec controller? When is the best point to activate vtec and fuel settings? I have a 89 civic and I have using a 90 crx si ecu. Anyone have any suggestions?

Look at this site. A stock prelude h22a gained 13.4 hp and 14.2 ft-lb that isn't overall it's around when vtec was activated. They leaned it out to -4% from 5000-0 rpm and the rest 0%. I know I won't get this kind of gains on a sohc but does anyone know some good settings?

get an air/fuel ratio gauge and read it accordingly matching up the rpms, that's your closest setting without a dyno machine

I was wondering if your setup is working well? I have the same setup as you, and I'm potentially gonna get a Field Vtec Controller. I'm currently using a homemade vtec swich (rpm switch and relay).

I have the same set-up as you. 89 Civic Si with mini-me swap and a Fields SFC-VTEC controller to activate VTEC. I just bought a Air/Fuel ratio gauge to tune the fuel controller. Hondas run rich from the factory and without the controller hooked. It sure did run rich on the gauge. I leaned the car out a good bit. Something like -4-7% across the rpm band. You really need to get a AFR gauge. I found mine online used for $35. Good luck

How can you lean the mix? I thought the ecu was taking care of this and that it was not possible to alter it.

The vtec controller modifies the signal to the computer, fooling it into changing the fuel mixture.

i have this controller in a LS VTEC b18a. it doesnt increase horsepower anywhere near noticeable. i think those numbers are outrageous. rather have a stock controller.

I got 13 HP on my modded B16 out of my VTEC controller...

Then I tuned it with the Hypertech Shogun tuner and got a total of 19.

I used to have a rpm switch but it didn't seem to work. When I got the vtec controller I noticed the difference. It's just easier because you know when vtec is working. I've read that it maybe better to lean it out but, wouldn't it be better to raise the fuel because I'm using a 90 si ecu and it would natually run lean since the ecu is for the d16a? I also have a 90 si ecu with a mugen program and I know it runs "richer," advances the timing, and raises the rev limit. It seems to have a better top end with it, but my top end sucks because I have 1 3/8" piping. It's hard to tell. I'm just trying to get as much power as possible with what I have at the moment.

14.7@93 mph
2.4 60' times
Bald street tires.
89 civic std.
95 D16Z6, 88 crx si tranny
Intake, Header, Vtec Controller.
