89 flywheel on an 88?
Howdy!
I have a 1988 CRX Si. Can I use an '89-91 flywheel? It seems that AASCO is the only company that makes an aftermarket flywheel for the 1988. Can anybody confirm this?? I really need to make this decision ASAP. Thanks

88 and 89 Si flywheels are the same - you can use 89 flywheel - you need to use 88 clutch disc to fit the 88 transmission - 90-91 flywheel will not work with 88 or 89 clutch
Back up a sec, I think you may be incorrect here.
I think you can use any 88-91 flywheel, the 88 is smallest, 89 is the next up, and 90 and 91 are the biggest. You should be able to use any clutch with a 90 or 91, an 89 requires an 89 or 88 clutch and the 88 flywheel is only big enough for the 88 clutch.
It's all related to the surface size of the flywheel

Yea, it'll fit. The 90+ flywheels are considered an "upgrade" by ACT, that's how I got it all figured out when I put an ACT clutch on my 88 civic with an 89 tranny and 88 flywheel.

right - any 88-91 flywheel will bolt to the engine - the 88-89 pressure plate will not bolt to 90-91 flywheel - the pressure plate mounting bolt circle is larger on the 90-91 - with 88 disc to fit transmission, you need 88-89 pressure plate (200mm), which means you need 88-89 flywheel - on anything with 89 and up transmission, you can upgrade to the larger 90-91 flywheel and clutch, but with the 21 spline 88 disc, you cannot upgrade to the larger flywheel, since you can't get a larger disc with 21 splines

the 89 DX and the 89,90,91 CRX use the same size shaft and same number of splines on the transmission. The 89 DX clutch disk and pressure plate is smaller in diameter by about one inch than the CRX Si. Although the flywheel is the same diameter on both. As long as you stay with one or the other it should work fine.
as for the 88's they use a different spline count as everyone else has said.
good luck
