Default Preventing rust at ground

The hole for the ground that was drilled in my car has rust spreading all around it. What can be done to prevent it from happening again after I clean up the rust? I'm not supposed to paint the hole because you're supposed to have metal on metal contact to properly ground the amp, correct?

I cover the area in silicon caulking - protects the metal pretty well and keeps the screw from backing out.

Stop lying. I could never rust in cali

I have used caulk before also, but to keep the water out.

So it sounds like caulk is the best solution. Do you apply any to the underside? I haven't looked yet but I imagine there's rust on the bottom also. Thanks.

The underside is the best place to apply it.

anything that keeps air from getting to it will keep it from rusting. that said, driling a hole in your car is not a good way to get a ground for your amp .much better is to use a seat, seatbelt, shocktower bolt/nut anything that goes into mainframe of car , better ground and they never losen up 94

Bull. Let me guess, you don't need a terminal either, huh. The best thing to use to prevent rust is some kind of grease. If you go to any autoparts store and look for battery terminal sealant or somthing like this http://www.permatex.com/produc...ealer

is that a pix of you under your name Auex. yes there are prod.made to prevent rust ,and some things are better then others, but anything that keeps air[oxygen] from metal will keep it from rusting. my point was, drilling a hole in your car to ground an amp is not a very good way to do it [ causes RUSTING] the best ground for amps in cars is to use one of numeres 10mm and 12mm nuts [on studs] or bolts that go into the mainframe of car[not a 16ga sheetmetal panel spotwelded to another sheetmetal panel spotwelded to the mainframe] some not being used for anything. and DAH you would use a proper size ring term. soldered to wire[to keep the term.and wire from oxidizing, solder keeping air from the connection]take my word for it ,been installing car audio for 30 years,LET ME GUESS when i installed my first amp Auex your were still your daddys wet dream. try reading the reply before you open your yap.94

My point was more along the lines that you won't find many of the bolts you listed (seat, seatbelt, shocktower bolt/nut) in any reasonable size ( hence the no terminal), almost never 10mm or 12mm. This being a honda site you probably could use a seat bolt but then again it would be visable.

you dont give up do you.there is a 10mm bolt that holds back of[bottem]seat into mainframe, there are 2 seatbelt reel bolts[rear seat] that can be used, and you cant see ether of them, and if you have split [bottem rear]seats there are 2 more 10mm bolts that hold the center mt bracket to mainframe, 94

You could always just rub a bit of vaseline on the bare metal, and then wipe most of it off.

Heaps cheaper than *proper* battery terminal selant, and does exactly the same job.
