If the bulbs are good then check to see that you break light switch is working. it is located up under the dash on or close to the brake lever

you say your brakelight [not brakelights] is not working , do you mean the anticollision light [or center brakelight] or do you mean non of them work? ill take it as none of them work , as you should start at the top to find problem for both. 1 check fuses underdash and underhood [dont just look at them ,use a volt meter or "ecu safe" testlight] test that you have power on both pins of fuse [you can do this with fuse in place] if all ok. 2 test brakelight switch [underdash high up on brake peddle, also leave in place] will have at least 2 wires in it, one [feed] will have 12v+ on it all the time , now test other wire/wires and [if more then one]at least one will have 12v+ on it when you step/push on peddle[you shouldnt have to step/push very hard] if no ,check and see that pinswitch [held into brakelight switch by brake ped.arm] comes out all the way. if not adjust,[brake ped.arm should not be in contact with pinswitch tip when peddle pushed more then 1or2 in. if still no power replace switch.if all ok.3 test brakelight bulb socket [remove bulb] have someone step on brake while you test for 12v+ at pin at bottem of socket, if no. check all harness plugs at,into and around fuse box [inside one] and behind kik pan.below fuse box, if all ok. you will have to check harness running to back of car [starts behind drivers kik pan. and runs dowen drivers side of car[kik pan. and rockerpanal cover and rear seat are easy, rear side pan. is a bit of a pain] check ground in bulb socket [on inside side of socket] before you check harness.if all ok your pissing into the wind. hope this helps 94

the brake pedal[the part you step on] is mounted to the lever the lever is mounted to the pivit the pivit is mounted to th........................................anyway, part way up the "lever" [or mounted next to it] is the brake switch[pin switch][ because it has a pin in it that is held in by the brake lever or bracket on the lever] ,you have to check and see that its working [ its what supplies 12v+ to the brakelights] the pin must slide in and all the out way out when you step/push on the brake, it has to have 12v+conn. [live all the time] into it, it has to have 12v+ out of it [on another wire]when you step/push on the brake pedal. if your having brake light problems [all the brakelights] this is where to check after checking fuses. ps get a manual for your car [not a shop manual big big $$$] just one of them ones you can get at your parts store,it can be a big help if your going work on your car yourself [like you would have known where the brakeswitch was lol. hope this helps 94

sorry to bump an old topic, but i was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have an 89 civic hatch and my third brake light is not working. The fuse under the hood marked "Stop/horn" is fine and the horn works. I got new blubs cuz i though the one in there was out, but it still didnt work. I tested the old bulb with a battery and it works, so i now know it's gotta be the circuit somewhere.
Should i just trace the wires around and look for a loose one or does anyone have any nifty socket connection cleaning tips?
I also had a question about the door jamb switch in my car; I have no idea where it is... I've looked all over the door and have not found anything resembling a switch or button or contact of any kind. any help?
