I want this one to last
Hi guys, this is my first post here. I'm a junkie over at flashkit.com and a few others. I've had 2 CRX's and a Civic, all of which lasted longer than they should have, no thanks to me.
I just bought a 98 Accord which has been treated rather well except for the 123,000 miles on it. I've never been a 'car' person but I intend to be and this looks like the right place. Please be kind
Can you guys tell me some of the first things I should do to make sure everything is in good running order?
There is a bit of a vibration coming from the front axle on the drivers side but I don't know if that is a CV boot/joint problem or if I just need balancing.
Also, there is a faint burning smell after I park it but not every time. Could it be transmission related or related to the previous problem?
I have a lot more to ask but I'll save those for other threads.

auto or manny? cause if its a manny and youre getting a smell, you could be burning up your clutch. I dont know much about autos so im not gonna say anything about that.
vibration is probably a balancing issue, but get up underneath there and see if your CV boot looks to be in good shape cause if its cracked and theres grease everywhere, thats a bad sign...
I seem to recall there being a couple of recalls on your model year so if someone else would be so kind as to list them for this guy, that would be cool. congratties and welcome by the way

With no intent to sound obvious, whether it is manual or auto, how fast do u come into the parking stall or garage? You could just have crap brakes or could be burning them up everytime you stop.
LOL I'm such a newb! It's an automatic and an LX.
I don't really stomp on my brakes or push them that hard really. This is my first car with ABS so that initial cushin is a little odd still. I'm gonna check the CV boot this weekend. Any idea how hard it is to get to and replace/re-pack a boot? Just wondering if it's something I can do myself.
