people with jdm 4-1 header in gsr
how much space was there for the new cat? cuz i heard the header is longer than the stock one so i was wondering how much room i had left for the new cat. i'd rather not cut into the exhaust. thx
you have to cut into existing exhaust piping. My header plus the Cat was about 2-3 inches longer from what i remember. Unless you can find a real short cat. other then that you have to cut into it.
You need a cat that is either 12" or 12.5" long, can't remember the exact one at this moment. Ask SMSP to confirm this info. That's for 94-99 GS-R's. If you have 00-01 GS-R then you need a 17.5" cat.

Yes.
I'm not sure about the actual exact lengths, but I know that Dave at SMSP offers Car Sound cats that will allow you to bolt a JDM header onto a pre-'00 GS-R without any modification of the exhaust.
That being said, if you do plan on keeping the existing exhaust system, you should consider removing at least the first bottleneck at the cat/B-pipe flange and replacing it with a tapered adapter.
