Default Water in spare tire well hatch...... taillight gasket?

Reading some archives I found that alot of you said its the taillight gasket. Is it #4 in this picture? Or can I just silicone it? drill holes in well?..... (ghetto)

there is moisture in my tailights too so I guess this is my problem, It has been raining like nuts here in Milwaukee and I dont want my rust free hatch to start rotting out. Thanks for any more info.....

I'm gussing when you call it a hatch that you have a civic HB, but on my CRX I had a problem with the tailight's leaking concidering the huge crack down the middle letting water flow in...so yea replaced that and it helped. No more leaking from the rear. Now the onlything that leaks is my gas propts. Which I have no clue why or how that is. But anyway try replacing it and seeing what happens. Trial and error

You could probably get away with putting a silicone sealant or something on both sides of the tailight gaskets. Thats what i did.
As far as the other leak...I think that is coming from the black rubber strips (gutters) going down the roof line.

How is that possiable? I read on a post awhile ago that it might be coming from the rear window washer nozzel. Again I don't see how it's getting into the gas prop from there??

WEll, looking at it objectively, while the rear window washer nozzle may contribute to the leak...the amount of water i have coming in from the gas struts area is NO way solely from window squirter. MAYBE if it was an open hole on my roof, maybe. I havent had the guts to do it yet, but i'm pretty sure under those rain gutters on the roof is where the roof welds would be. Water is probably seeping through there and then making its down, towards the rear of the car. I have already noticed on a few of my friends crx's, that the corking at the top of the rear hatch in each corner is cracking... so i can imagine the same under the rubber strips. Once there is a crack, the water seeps into it.

i siliconed the gasket in the tailights and that worked great. when ever i get water in th espare tire area now is from the gas shock from the hatch, and the sunroof lines leak. im about to plug the sunroof/

I've done everything to stop leaks in my rex, and now it doesn't leak at all No more of that shitty moldy smell when it rains. I siliconed the roof gutters, the rear window spray nozzle, and used some black weatherstrip goo on my rear tail light gaskets (because OEM costed a good handful of cash) and now it doesn't leak at all. Oh yea, I also unclogged the two rear drains for my sunroof.

Explain silicone on the gutters? Like u took them off and put silicone under or just slapped it on top.

This can work... but might not, and will definately make a mess. The easiest solution is just drill like 4-5 small holes in the bottem of the taillight housing (not the spare tire well). The water only ever gets into the car when the taillight fills up and spills over, this will prevent that from ever happening!

I'd rather seal the gaskets and put a bead of silicone along the top of the tailights where it meets the body, than have tailights full of water. I did it on my last car and it wasnt messy and might have passed as oem silicone y0!

Hey spork, can u go into more detail on how to water proof the gutters pretty please???

If you need taillight gaskets check with user "ragejed"
I bought some from him for my Integra and I think he made some for other Hondas as well. Took care of my leaky lights

Anyone got pix of the roof gutter and washer nozzle fix?
I want to see, how!!
I just paid the big $$ for the tail gaskets, cause I'm lazy.

Whoops, sorry fellas, didn't have this one on subscription. For the gutters I lifted them up probably about 3"-4" from the rear, and put in some clear silicone all the way down to the upper corners of the hatch (hatch was open) and along the welds you see there. So about 6"-7" of silicone along the welds. Then I put a small layer around the base of the rear window squirter. I use to get water drips from the top of the hatch struts, and it fixed that problem. But I was still getting water in my hatch, I used some weather sealant stuff on the back of the tail gaskets and that cured that problem. Any more questions just ask (I'll subscribe now )

It's been raining here REALLY hard lately and the other day I got in my car (everything like seats and floors were dry) and I put on my seat belt and it was wet... well, damp, not dripping wet but.. wtf?

Also I noticed that Water is coming in through my front speakers! AHHHHH

As for the spare tire well, check where the tubes from your sunroof exit your car in the rear.. if they are plugged or rotted they will back up and leave the water in your spare tire well.... they did that to mine.

Haha, what of? I'm at work for the majority of the night today, but I could get some tomorrow.

And oh yea, like rice classic said, I unclogged my rear sunroof drains too. And when I say they were clogged, they were CLOGGED. I removed all of my rear interior, pulled the lil plug on the end of each tube and it was like a garden hose with all of the water built up. In the plug there was muddy crap built up, but now it flows like wine!
