Default built motor longetivity

i was just thinking about this the other day because i plan on building my motor. it is obvious that after market internals, such as pistons, rods, rings, sleeves, blah blah blah, are stronger and more reliable than stock internals. my question is, if i were to build my motor, how long would this motor last me if everything was done correctly? realistically, are we talking 300,000 miles on aftermarket parts? of course i want more power, but i want my motor to last me a while.

dumb question i know, but i was just wondering if running higher compression pistons, revving to 9,000 rpms and giving my motor hell if it would still last me longer than if on stock internals.

there is a saying that floats around that goes like this............cheap, fast, reliable......you can only choose two.

But yeah basically the reason aftkermarket parts are made so much stronger, is because they are made so you can put more of a beating on them. Higher compression puts strain on the rods, pistons, sleeves, rings, block (when a rod snaps ) Reving to 9k or higher puts strain on your valve train, things spin faster, you loose spring tension in the valve springs after a while, then you could drop a valve. You are gunna have a hell of a lot more heat running through the engine then at stock.

Basically to answer your question, it CAN be reliable it just depends on how far you wanna take your build.

Full on drag car, All motor.......possibility of not lasting long

Turbo..........TUNING, if you can afford it it will be reliable

A mild street build, some mild cams, proper valvetrain possibly a lil bit higher compression.........along with TUNING you should be ok.

Basically comes down to how much money you want to spend.

Comes down to precision.

Precise Machine Work, Clearances, Assembly, Tuning, Break in.

It will last as long as the time and money you put in to it.

Its all relative.
