Starting Problem and Battery/Alternator Problem
-- starting problem --
sometimes when i get in my car to start it. i can hear the starter cranking over fine, but the car wont start. i changed the spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor
-- battery/alternator problem --
i bought a new battery. it lasted for a little over 3 months. i did the alternator test (pulling the negative while the car is running) the car is still running fine. when i turn the headlight on and highbeams the other lights dim real quick then back to normal. so is it possible that the alternator is going bad? i know the alternator is still charging the battery fine because it takes a little while before the battery drains. i also need to check if i have a power drain somewhere.
someone help me out please

I had a problem which sounds somewhat similar to this. Every now and then my car would die and be difficult to start. It always wound over. My display lights (check light, battery etc) would go out then come back on again. I kept driving my car until one day I got in it to start her up and it would'nt fire. It wound over alright but just wouldnt fire, turns out my new cam belt had slipped off. Great stuff eh. I dont see how this could effect your battery except if your car was takin a while to start i.e. draining your battery power by excessive use of the starter motor to no effect. This probably isnt whats happening to your car but thought i'd let you know just incase.

I had a very similar problem and got lots of bad suggestions. Finally one day I snapped and had my wife turn the key while I undid the bolt to the fuel rail. No fuel.
Pull out your main relay assembly (controls fuel pump and injectors during startup I believe) and check the solders. On my car it is located under the dash on the driver's side. All the solders on mine were obviously bad. I redid them all and have had no trouble ever since. I priced a new assembly at $70, so I would suggest trying to fix it first! There is a picture or two of the relay in the Honda album in my yahoo photos link in my signature.
- the fourth and fifth pictures in the Honda album are the relay assembly, main-

anyone else?... for some reason i think it might have to do something with the distributor. now as for the alternator/battery problem.. i think my alternator might just be bad.

your best bet is to go to sears or someplace that can actually test the voltage coming out of your alternator. yes it maybe charging your battery, but at what rate? and if you turn on your lights, can your alternator still handle charging your battery and powering your lights?
i don't think it would be your distributor causing this. to test this out, when your car doesn't start but will crank, try checking to see if you get any spark. if you do get spark then it's not your distributor.
also check to see if you're getting fuel if it's not starting. if you're getting both fuel and spark your car should start perfectly fine unless there was an electrical issue somewhere else that needs to be addressed.
anyway, start with the alternator and work your way from there. sorry i couldn't be of more help...
