Default Is there a risk with short ram intakes?

I don't want to get a cai cause I'm worried I might suck in water. Do short ram intakes have that problem also?

I'm looking at getting something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...38634

shouldnt be a problem if you have your fender lining on.

Find a cheaper one. Use only the piping. By a better filter. K&N, Apex'i are sweet. Short rams are about level with the engine. So if you manage to get a puddle, if youre getting in water that high you're screwed anyways. So I wouldnt worry

Short rams usually don't have any problems with water because they are mounted so high. Make sure you have some sort of protection down below, just in case you're paranoid.

Ooo, I see.

How exactly do you suck in water anyway? I'm just worried cause my friend's brother sucked in water at a parking lot and it killed his engine..

Just get a CAI with a bypass valve. Then you can joyride through all the puddles and not worry about hydro-lock.

they say suck in water but generally it has to be slightly submerged so the water penetrates the filter. on lowered vehicles with cai, its a bigger risk...

If you drive with your head on straight, you aren't going to hydrolock your engine. In fact, I 'd be more worried about the dirt getting into your engine from your filter sitting a few inches off the ground. Dirt = premature wear.

I dont see how people hydrolock their engines. You must be driving in a Lake or something. Ive never encountered a time where the water was so high that i feared for my CAI. You gotta be submerged in water for it to suck up water. Also if you install it on a honda, just keep the fender lining. I know the accords fender lining protects the filter perfectly.

The only way i can see it hydrolocking is if you remove your fender lining and drive in the rain in which your tires throw loads of water onto your filter. Other than that, you must be driving in a stream, lake, pond, or some sort of large body of water to hydro lock with the fender lining in place.

and if you know you have a cai, wouldnt you "try" to go around it and not run over it? and on highways drive in the center lanes? dont follow big trucks or cars without splash guards? mainly common sense, but if you really couldnt avoid it then thats a different story.

Amen....it's all hype....one douchebag hydrolocks his engine, doesn't give the whole story and starts a big hydrolock scare. It's bogus. Put what you want on there.
