Default 14.1@104!!! what's wrong?

i've been to the track a couple times this year in my teg, and can't seem to consistently break the 14sec mark. a few 13.9s, but i'm getting 102 to 104mph traps, which should put me deep into 13s. i can hook up decently on the street, and run 13.5-13.7s at 104 or so (according to my hks tt, and yes it's accurate - i tested it at the track). on the track i can barely muster 2.2x - 2.3 60's, and run about 14s flat.
can anyone give me some tips on how to hook on street tires at the track? (btw i'm running yoko es100s, 205/50/15 at about 26psi at the track). or should i just spring for some bfgs?

He put that it's on street tires.....I would suggest that you go just a little lower on tire pressure. I went from 28psi down to 22psi and went from 2.3-2.4 60fts. to 2.0-2.1 60fts. Good luck and just practice!!

running on street tires is waste of time specially when you're trying to get a good Et. get some BFG's, lower your the tire pressure and get your 60ft's down. you'll definitely see better Et's.

everyone says get bfgs but ive had both bfgs and nittos and i prefer the nittos, with nittos you can run them as both street and a track tire, i pull 2.00s consistently everytime with a 2300lb car and get around 10k miles on each set, their cheaper then bfgs too

i actually was running 24 psi for a few runs with no better results, but some people were saying thats a little low for street tires at speeds over 100mph. i'd rather not risk a blowout. as far as practising, i have been practising on the street a lot, but i don't have the same problems on the street as i do at the track, i can hook just fine on clean pavement. its the track that i have a problem with. should i be launching in or out of the grooves? dropping it or rolling it off the line? holding ebrake and slipping clutch before green light? any other suggestions i can use before resorting to new tires?

good point. they don't last for **** on the street but a 6k dump and hook on the street is sweet

I would be suprised if you have not experienced some wheel hop using the street tires you have. You can squeeze a little better 60's out of those but not much. If you want to feel what it is like to get the wholeshot on V8's or whatever and not have to worry about shattering your diff. (been there, done that!) or axles then I would highly recommend adding traction bars and a dedicated set of race wheels with some mickey slicks. I know your question is relative to what you have but why not protect the rest of your investment. Also this is the way to get ALL of the potential out of your set up. I have a all stock internal b20/vtec set up and with slicks manage consistent 1.9 60's and broke into the high 13's. This would never have possible on my street tires.

hey its cool, i pulled a 17.99 at 104.6MPH in my freinds civic Dx coupe .....
...
...
...
5.53 60ft time
wheel hop bounced me out of 1st gear,,, coasted for a bit, got pissed then hammered on it and pulled that time, **** was great.
key thing is slicks, cltuch, urethane motor mounts and you should be sub 2.0 60fts....

-PS no the coupe doesnt have the stock engine by any means.

thank you, i dont know why people are so into drag radials, especially the BF's...........they dont really last long enough to use them all the time, so why not run slicks?

I have been having the same problem, no traction.

Stock b20vtec, no traction. Civic DX Coupe. Sumitomo tires... 14's I believe.

I have ran nothing but 14.2. at 101mph... with 2.5 60ft was my best.

I tried a set of azenis's and those didn't do well for me... I also didn't launch it right, it was completely weird to me, I could feel the difference though, and it slowed down my MPH and lowered my 60ft. It was just my fault for not launching right with those.

I am going to be going to the track sometime soon again, with HOPEFULLY a set of a slicks, and if im lucky

Get slicks, no point to get BFG's.. unless u do a considerable amount of street racing... there is no point.

since we got on the subject, i prefer the nittos. my car weighs more than a couple of my associates cars and ive always pulled better 60s in my car than they have when i drove my coupe at the track. their BFGs just dont cut it compared to my nittos.

Wow! i guess im not the only person on HT that prefers nittos over BFGs
i was also able to cut better 60fts with nittos and they didnt bring down my mph nearly as much, i actually gained mph
the bfgs seems very heavy to me and you have to run them on less psi so by the end of the track it felt like i was dragging them

i was running those 205/45/15s in my coupe. 2540 w/o me in it. best 60' in the coupe was 1.95. GSR motor, ITR cams, ITR ECU, DC 4-2-1, VAFC, short ram. i got timeslip after timeslip of 2.0 60s with that setup. once i went to a B16 i still ran low 2.1s in the same car w/ similar setup w/ stock exhaust mani and cold air.

It's all said right here... He's right, running on street tires IS a waste of time. If you're trying to figure out what you'll run on the street using the drag strip then why bother lowering tire pressure anyway unless you're gonna cruise around like that. And if you organize a street race then sure lower the pressure so you can kill the other guy. If you don't street race, don't race with street tires at all then. Might as well go with slix

For every .1 sec you take off from 60 ft you'll possibly be taking off .2 secs on the 1/4mile ET...

Wrinkle wall is the way to go

"The physics behind the wrinkle is this: when the slick wrinkles, the tire creates a larger contact patch with the ground, or area where the surface of the tire and the ground are in contact. Looking at it from the ground's perspective, you would see the original contact patch, and then when power is applied, you hold onto what you had, and the tire forces more of itself down onto the ground on the front. In simple terms, the tire does flatten out, creating a larger contact patch, and thus better traction."
