Default Installing 6 puck

My friend tells me there's no need to resurface the flywheel or pressure plate when changing discs from stock organic to 6-puck ceramic. He's much smarter than me.

Is he right? I have zero experience w/ non-organic discs.

I should clarify... I replaced my stock clutch assembly about 1.5 years ago, maybe 30k km's, with an ACT HD unit. I only want to upgrade to a 6puck race disc.

I'd double think the change over to 6 puck if your car is a daily driver. I have a weekend car with an ACT 6 puck and I can tell you that the engagment is rough. Goodluck!!!

If the pressure plate and flywheel mating surfaces don't have deep grooves then you can do that. Shiny is okay. Grooves = bad.

you have to make the call when you see the flywheel and pressure plate surface. if its deeply grooved on either the plate or flywheel like Rocket said, it should be replaced, or resurfaced in teh case of the flywheel.

if the disc doesnt sit flat on the pressure plate or flywheel surface, you arent going to get a good matching surface. which can cause premature wear and also inefficient ability to engage.

Is it necessary? No. Is it recommended? Yes.

To ensure good break-in, proper surface mating, and a friction surface that is square and flat, it is always recommended to resurface flywheel and pressure flat. Just like you should resurface discs when changing brake pads.

Unlike brake pads, installing a clutch can cost a few hundred or hours of labor, so its best to have the clutch setup and installed in a manner that will promote maximum longevity and durability and effectiveness.

Thanks for your responses guys, I'm pulling off the tranny to see the damage tonight That will decide whether I have to get just the disc or the whole assembly.
