Autopower Rollbar options?
Getting a rollbar from autopower, and i have a quick question about bar options.
THanks to speedpak and ITR231 for posting these pics earlier:
The black cage has a small, flat bar behind the driver, while the white one does not...the harnesses look to be in a pretty good place on the white one...what do you call the small flat bar, and is there any reason to get it?

Those are both AP's you ***. I can show you an even older AP that has the bar (completely fuggen USELESS bar) but none bolt in cross braces/etc. I'll have to upload a pic of it later tonight.
Well the white one has the removable cross-bar (obviously
), so that's why it's not joined with the diagonal.
uhh that's all of my input, pretty useless I know. time to drink some more coffee.

as yeah ls said, the flat bar is for extra head support. My harness is mounted in the same place as on the white bar. The biggest difference I notice is that on mine (black one) the cross member is bowed out behind the driver to accomodate diff. seat positions, and behind the passenger it is not so, while the white one is bowed out all the way accross. I dont know which is better but mine is fairly new and all the horizontal/diagonal bars are removable.
Now its time for coffee.

Speedpak - so your crossbar is removable for better access to the rear

Is this a new design from AP?
I'm considering a 4-point for next season, so just looking for the options to maintain a little bit of daily usability.
thanks

fast-R,
Yes you can remove the horizontal and diagnol w/ a few bolts and all you are left with is the outer hoop and mount points.
fais-who also thinks his car as too much interior, but drive it everyday

Here's my (currently) daily driver's interior:

I can't speak for speedpak, but my interior is in because of class rules. I can't remove any of it. As for the differences in the bars, I don't really know. Mine is very new too (less than 6 months, I think) and I got mine from IOPortracing. With speepak's bar, you remove the whole middle section in one piece. With mine, you can remove either the cross brace or the harness bar one at a time. I don't really see any advantage to either, unless his middle section is harder to get out since it's one big piece. I have no need for the helmet restraint bar, but I was told that it was available (and removable).

My interior is out to stay in my new class rules.. E-Prepared. lol. Acutally I autox for fun, not for the trophies and crap.. although I might actually wait and collect the trophie if I get one this weekend. I don't have a state championship one yet.
I notice from the pictures that you guys have Roll bars or cages with harnesses, but still have the stock seats. You need a racing seat because using those harnesses with stock seats is very dangerous.
In a frontal impact, the harnesses will come off your shoulders since there isn't anything to keep them in place on the seat. You will then hit the steering wheel hard, although if you still have your airbags, you'll probably be okay if they deploy.
You need at least the harness with a H pattern. The one where their is a strap behind the seat that holds the two shoulder straps together. But you'll be better off with a real racing seat. It will improve your lap times since you'll have more feel.

I'm thinking i'll probably leave the rears out and upgrade the fronts when i do the installation, might even end up sounding better than stock...i have seen those H harness cross brace straps, but since i've go the seat already in, that won't be on my shopping list...but it might be for the passenger, any other thoughts on that?
Yes, it's optimal to have a real race seat (one that's approved by a real race sanctioning body) for safety, but as long as the harness is sinched down tight, it's not going to slip to the side. If the connections to the cage are clip on, well, it's definately not going anywhere then.
Just remember, pull the lap belts TIGHT, and then the shoulder belts TIGHT.

A big fat zip tie on either side of the shoulder straps will keep them in line just fine. However, once they're tight, there not going anywhere, even with nothing holding them in place.
Having said that, I'll admit that I have already ordered a pair of race seats for other reasons
