i am trying to install a gauge and it has 2 wires. the black one is ground and the white one is illumination. i was wondering what kind of wire i can splice into for illumination. thanks for any help!!

 

u could splice into the dim switch(2 wires,so choose the best one) or put constant power to the white wire,and keep it on all the time,during the day it wont matter anyways

 

i used the illumination wire from my cig. lighter, i think it was the red w/ black stripe but im not positive. also used the power and ground from there for a 12v source...... not like i smoke or anything so it was a good source, no new wires all over the place and its fused.
or you could find the ill. wire going to the radio.

 

splice into the parking light switch. that way when your lights come on, so does the gauge. you could also goto the accessory wire on the back of your cd player (usually red) then it will light up whenever the car is on.

actually behind your stereo there is a black / red wire and its directly connected to the illumination portion of the parking lights (its the dimmer wire for your stereo)

Theres 3 wires, a red and white (on the right side), a black one, and a color i cant remember because i just woke up. But that color that i cant remmeber (in the middle) is the one you tap into. HTH

 

Yep, use a wire tapper thing and tap into your parking lights. You don't want your guage on all of the time, esp. if it's an autometer.
