stiffer motor mounts?
i was wondering what i can do to make my motor mounts more stiff. right now my motor moves alot when i shift. is there inserts i can buy or what kind of motor mounts can i buy that are stiffer?
thanks brandon
thanks brandon
mugen motor mounts are stiffer than oem and they are 180 for all 4 which is a good deal if you want all oem with is 165...
or ES has mount inserts for the front and rear for about 20 bucks on suspension.com

Unless one of your mounts is damaged (check for this) you should get some benefit from just using the inserts. Or you could just install a stay rod.
another cheap way to do it is, taking the mounts out and pouring some poly-urethane into them. Seal one side off with paper or card board and elmers glue and fill it up with the urethane. Its kinda ghetto, but it works as well or better than the mount inserts. You'll get alot more vibration from your motor. This will cost you $30 and about 6 hours of labor. And let the mounts sit (untouched) for a full 30 hours before installing them. Good luck

You can use poly. sealant from home depot or go to a parts store and get 3m window-weld..

No no no no, not poly sealant. Go to the site I put up and you'll see what I'm talking about. Don't use this stuff <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by tgreaves »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

It will fail very quickly due to the amount of stress that is put on the mounts. The stuff I'm talking about is the stuff that most mount insert companies use.

doesnt some company that typically makes front crossmembers make a beefy poly front engine mount for ef's? edit: found it, jimfab makes a front engine mount for keeping your D series.

but just the poly inserts will get your engine to stay in place, even if the front one is torn. it doenst allow any vibrations during idling to be damped, so youll feel it through the rest of the chassis, from most user reviews.
the other alternative is an engine damper. not sure if anyones made one to fit the ef's, but im sure it could be made with another bracket.

I put the energy suspension poly bushings in my front a rear mounts...it DEFINITELY tranfers more vibration through the frame of the car...it gets sickening sometimes but they're great for autocross.
How about some Less-Stiff mounts?
I've got Place Racing Urethane mounts for my B16a and I can't stand them. Why doesn't anyone make rubber B16a conversion mounts? There is way too much vibration transmitted to the cabin.

Not recommended. I spoke to the guys at Energy Suspension saying that I want to just buy the inserts n pop 'em in...but when I told them I was putting them into cracked mounts they said buy new ones..(or non-cracked used ones)

Well, thats good. I guess your aviator quote fits, lol
Good luck with the rest of your build.

WTF are you talking about.. Why is it bad for me to use polyurethane sealant and make my own mounts rather then to buy the same thing from another company.. Also learn how to spell, its "AVATAR"..
My "AVATAR" quote was given to me by one of the moderators as an inside joke.. I did however make a low 13 second car using some junkyard and homemade parts where others who buy the "high end" parts cant even come close to it.. So if you can tell me a reason why my mounts are bad and "brand x" is better then I might get new ones until then I think I am having great luck on my build so far and probably will continue to do so..
Just to ask, were you making a joke or being an *******.. Im unsure from your post??

I switched from Place Racing to Hasport and I rarely get any vibration noises on my crx.

Dude...cool down. I was saying that it was nice that you haven't cracked a mount yet. Man, you really have to calm down when your discussing stuff with people. I was trying to help out and put my $.02 in, and you just flew off of the handle. I didn't mean to insult you if I did, I'm sorry, but cool off buddy. There is no need to get heated about this, its just not worth it. Im not even going to address you spelling accusation. Big deal, I used the wrong word for my discription.
And if you read my posts, you'll see that I said to "fill the mounts with Poly-urethane", not to go out and buy mounts. And that is impressive to make a 13 second car out of junkyard parts...props to you and your friends.
Why is it that people get so defensive and have to put other people down. Can't people just talk rather than getting pissed off...i thought i graduated high school. I mean, were supposed to be helping eachother out and all I see is alot of insulting comments from person to person. Just not healthy. Good luck.
WOW. THATS TWICE I'VE SAID "GOOD LUCK." WHAT A NICE GUY AM I?

today i took out my front motor mount and cut up some pieces of rubber fuel line and stuffed it in the mount to take up some of the extra space in between the center and walls. i split two pieces in half so that it fits on top and bottom of the center piece and stuck uncut ones in the engine side where theres a huge gap. theres still some space to move slightly and within the hollow center of the hose, so its not completely solid, but it does help cut down excessive engine movement. seems to work fine. will let you know more later how it works. i may need to just take one or two of the pieces out at worst.
well took it for a late night test drive and the car feels excellent! i can drop the clutch without much complaint and minimal if any wheel hop and pretty much seem limited by the traction of my all season tires (ie. burnouts) not that i really ever drop the clutch since i dont drag race, but ive been fighting the clutch lately having to feather the clutch pedal around the friction point. thought it was my clutch slipping and going, but apparently not. ive really never been able to do this before. and extra vibration at idle is very minimal if at all, might be just psychological as im trying to feel for it. certianly nothing obnoxious. man, ive been thinking of doing this for a long time, i always regret waiting to do the things i have in mind.
maybe ill take it out and post a pic to share. but its pretty easy, just some 2" pieces of rubber fuel line stuffed in the front engine mount.

here's a pic of how i stiffened my front engine mount. the difference is definately noticable, while not transmitting any harsh vibrations, or any extra vibration at all during idle. just used standard 1/2" OD, 1/4" ID rubber fuel line cut 1.5" long and some were split as shown.
