Default need help wiring up VTEC on Y8

I put a D16Y8 into my CRX but i'm having trouble wiring up the VTEC. I stuck to the stock Si ECU, the P06, so i'm using a VTEC activator. More specifically, i'm using the MSD RPM activator switch (PN 8950). I do not know how to wire this stinkin' thing up! It's getting very frustrating!

As well, my tranny is leaking oil after the swap...anyone have ideas where it might be leaking from? Axles seals are new, and it's not leaking from the drain plug, or the filler plug.

those activated switches are supposed to be cake. Vtec solenoid is 1 wire and it needs voltage when you hit that certain RPM. All you need is power, ground and activation. what specific problem are you having the the msd switch?

I think you can run it off the blue wire on the dizzy for activation, no need for messing with the ECU.

for all connections please use a multimeter to test
1. cut the red and blue loops, tape em.
2. red wire goes to ignition, black with yellow under dash
3. black is ground, find some metal to the left side under dash scrape the paint away down to bare metal & drill a hole. Use a sheet metal screw to secure the ground wire to metal. Use a little rtv over the connection afterward to protect it from corrosion.
4. white is the rpm input wire. I went thru the firewall and connected this straight off of the distributor. The tach wire is blue, connect them. I soldered mine, I would recommend this under the hood. tape it up and use a little wire loom to cover that.
5. this is where you'll need a diagram, look @ the bottom of the relay, pin side upand youll see this schematic, wire it this way:
(heres my relay)

___________12volt +output to vtec solenoid
l
l
____l_________ 12 volt RELAY
l 87 l
l l
12volts+_ ~____________ l86 85 l___- yellow______________
l l 87a l trigger
l l l from msd module
l l____30_______l
l_____________l

use a 12volt relay:
1. combine 86 and 30 use a fuse from your 12 volt + source
2. connect the yellow 12 volt - trigger from the msd module to 85 on the relay
3. connect the wire that comes from the vtec solenoid to 87

This should activate the vtec solenoid, the msd switch only throws a 12 volt negative trigger. The vtec solenoid uses 12 volts +, the ground is supplied via ground chassis so all you have to worry about is the connection i just laid out above.

To adjust vtec activation points:

I used this rather than using the rpm pills that you purchase separately, this way I could adjust rpm activation points. You can also do a search on honda-tech to find the resistor values to simulate the activation that is done by using the rpm pills.

i hope this helps
any ???? pm me email me luvchz989@aol.com whatever, lemme know

btw, if youre unsure theres a msd forum that you can use (i just found it tonite )
http://www.msdignition.com/for...x.php
btw, I'm signing up right now

if you're using a PILL switch u will need to put the pill @ HALF

Example. u want VTEC @ 5000rpm put in a 2500rpm pill. This is because MSD started in the days of v8

I'm using the P06, he's using the PM6.

That's why for a 4cyl you have to cut both the loops on the MSD to make it work for non-V8 applications.
