Aerospeed ITR shiftknob questions...
I normally won't touch the interior of my car but happen to run across and areospeed ITR replica shiftknob in JCW. I personally hate the 2000 GSR **** and picked one up for $20.
It looks horrible with the stock shifter. I think it sits even higher than the OEM one.
Should I just pick up a short shifter? Not too worried about it.. it was just $20, just curious what others might have done.
Well, it's probably about stock height but the thing is the shift boot doesn't reach it. So, it's like a long stick with the **** on top.
Hott-nix, can you post a pic?

That's just how ITR shift ***** look. Using an ITR shift boot will make it look cleaner thought.

Doesn't look too bad. I guess my is about the same height. So, you think gettingn ITR shift boot would make it look better? Hmmm... maybe I should just get a short shifter.
What other short shifters have the same thread for OEM *****?

I think it looks alright. It won't get any better than that. The ITR boot is practically the same and will result in the same look as the photo, stitch color aside of course.
If it bothers you that much, you could wrap black electrical tape right under the lock nut (if it came with one) and pull up the boot colar around the tape until you have a snug fit.

I have one similiar to that as well, and it doesn't bother me too much about the exposed lever.
What I have been looking for lately is a '98-'00 Civic Si shift **** with the clip at the bottom that goes into the ring at the top of the shift boot. That will pull the boot up to the bottom of the shift ****, and make it look a lot cleaner I think.

a short shifter will do nothing for the height of the **** in relation to the shift boot!!! The only thing it does is change the distances for the throttle rod and shift rod under the car.

Some short shifters are physically shorter than the OEM pieces, in which case it would indeed shorten the distance between the **** and the boot.

All you have to do is slide some fuel line over the shift-rod, then put the center console and boot over it. That will keep the boot flush with the bottom of the ****.
If you just want to shorten your shifter you can take the shift linkage off and take out the stock shifter. Then you can cut off a few inches off the top of the stocker shifter and rethread it with a die set. My dad has a metal lathe so we were able to do this with that but you may be able to get away with a grinder or something.

or a few layers of electrical tape wraped around the shifter directly under the boot

Maybe, some short shifters don't change the stock height but I'll just pick one up that is slightly lower than OEM height. I've seen plenty that also change the height as well.
