Default radiator questions

i was wonder.. my friends has a car..

no ac. no radiator.
can he turn on the car without the radiator for just a bit?

What is "just a bit"?

And if there's no radiator. Where are the coolant hoses going to? Is the block just open? Is there coolant in the system?

I **GUESS** you can start it and have it run for like 10 seconds max if you really want to. But why?
