Default Will alum. exhaust gaskets melt?

I have a sheet of aluminum that I'm cutting out some gaskets for (dp, turbo/mani) and wondering if the aluminum will just melt off? I thought it would be good for a gasket b/c it's soft.

Well ****! There goes $10 What cars came stock with a T3? I'll just buy a gasket from somewhere for that, then make the downpipe one.

good point on the aluminum, maybe I'll just try it with the sheet and if it sucks then I'll buy a real gasket from ford, thanks for the info!

Your head is also a much larger chunk of aluminum than a small thin gasket, and it is water cooled. The gasket is not water cooled, and it does not have much contact with air to cool it. Some motorcycle exhaust systems use aluminum flanges to bolt the headpipes to the cylinder head, but those flanges have lots of contact with the air. I think this cooling air is what makes them acceptable.

There was post up here a short while back, with a pic of a melted aluminum hf manifold adapter flange- and that thing was much thicker than a gasket. I don't mind being wrong. Try it out and let us know how it goes.
