Deposits on faceside of exhaust valves
Well, I tore my motor down this weekend and am doing a re-ring and some valvetrain upgrade for some Skunk stage 2's. Everything looked pretty good internally except for there was some heavy buildup on the exhaust valves on the #4 cylinder. It looks almost like calcium. I was able to scrape some of it off, but I don't have any pictures right now, the head is at the machine shop. What would cause buildup on 1 cylinder only? All the rest of the valves look fine. The other weird thing was that the #4 piston had a lot less carbon on it vs. the rest of the pistons. There was a lot more on 1, 2 and 3. Its probably a related item, but does anyone have a clue about this? TIA
This happened on my old DSM. I suspect it was from the synthetic oil that constantly came in through the PCV (I never installed a catch can) but I can't be 100% sure.
