idle too low,B18c1
my idle is too low, the engine goes off when i not pressing the gas pedal. what do i need to clean and how do i clean it? anybody has a picture of the parts that i need to clean and where i can find it?
thanks
thanks
Unplug the IACV, jump the ecu, and warm the engine up to full operating temperature. Use a hand held tach, and it should be reading 480 rpm's (+/- 50). If not, then turn the screw on top of the throttle body to adjust it. Plug back in the IACV and unjump the ecu and you should be good to go.

I would try Simple Green or some throttle body cleaner to clean the IACV.

When you unplug the IACV the idle drops. When you plug it back in, it should go back up to normal idle.

sorry but this is the first time im cleaning this, i need to know where the IACV is located? can somebody post a pic of the IACV and where its located..
It's on the back of the Intake manifold. You can't miss it. There is a wire harness that plugs into the bottom of it. Unplug it, then there are 2 12mm bolts that hold it on. There are also 2 coolant lines on the bottom of it. You will probably lose some coolant when you remove the hoses, so do it after it has cooled.

i also have a b18c1....after i rev my engine up to about 3-4rpm...and let it drop...it drops all the way to 100rpm...and jumps bak up to regular idle....it seem like it want to die on meh when i do that....what is wrong?
thanks screaminteg, i will clean it later, i guess i need to buy coolant and WD40 to clean the IACV..
i will let you know if it solves my problem on low idle..
thanks

When you plug it back in, the IACV opens & controls the idle.

Same problem I had, still does it a little, but I raised the idle and it is a bit better now. I need to swap IACV's, I have the old one on there now, but I have a brand new one that I'm going to throw on.

The O-ring thing? If it wasn't leaking from there then you don't need to change it. There is a little screen and if it's anything like mine, it will probally be messing up the air flow because it is sooo clogged from the buildup.
Hey
My 2001 si has the same idle problem. everytime i come to a complete stop, the rpms drop, almost stall, then kick up to about 650, and idles rough. I took it to honda, they ran a diagnostic, and said the computer was showing that the cat was inefficient, basically it was clogged, and that it needed replacement. I ended up removing the cat altogether and getting a resonator installed instead. This didnt help at all. Any tips would be great. Just FYI, i dont know if it matters, but my vtec has headers running thru a straight piped exhaust with resonator and ractive muffler. all o2 sensores are intact and working. car has cold air intake as well. these are the only engine mods.

D17A2 in a 2001 Civic Si? You meant EX correct? Anyway, I had this problem before on my 91 Integra.. (idle would drop at stoplights and kinda rev up and drop again) I found out the problem was that the idle adjust screw on the throttle body was tightened all the way. So I yanked the IACV plug and reset the idle and haven't had the problem since. Hope this helps ya out.
Great thread, my turboed gs-r has the same problems i'm going to clean the t/b and the IACV. I'll keep you guys posted how this works, because it could also be the idle tuneing in my hondata.

Do not use WD40 to clean your IACV...instead pick up some carb cleaner and use that. It will work better than the WD40 idea trust me

OK I had the same exact problem... I told everyone I knew about the problem hoping eventually I would find someone who would recommend something i havnt tried and FINALLY
SEA FOAM!!!! Its this stuff they sell at the autoparts store in a can or bottle for $3-5 its made to clean out your vacuum and intake system as well as other things... So I bought the spray can... With the engine running on high idle (unplug FPR Vacuum) I sprayed it into all the vacuum line ONE AT A TIME. Then I turned off the car... AND SPRAY TONS AND TONS of this stuff into the intake manifold Ensuring that i got a WHOLE BUNCH into the holes in your throttle body that lead to the IACV and some other thing... Make sure a large amount goes down EACH RUNNER and into the cyclinders then let the car sit for 5 or more minutes I waited 10 minutes... Start the car (it will need some coaxing since you just flooded the motor and intake manifold) Once it start it will idle rough for a few seconds once its done doing that DRIVE AWAY get all the smoke out of the system It is normal to have smoke come out the exhuast drive around for 15-20 minutes and then its done... VACUUM SYSTEM, INTAKE MANIFOLD, IACV, and more NOW CLEAN AS A WHISTLE.
My car idles at 700 rpm sometime changing slightly but for the most part dead on 700
ITS GREAT STUFF I RECOMMEND ANYONE GIVE IT A TRY EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT HAVING IDLING PROBLEMS...
I tried it on another friends car whos car would idle low and sometimes die and it solved the problem

The five things I have usually found that cause a bad engine idle are as follows:
1.The IAC valve as mentioned above.
2. The Fast idle or Thermal valve located below on the bottom of the throttle body with the coolant lines passing through it. What usually happens here is the Plastic screw inside works its way all the way loose and causes a low idle condition, or most often a surging condition.
3. Obviously a vacuum leak
4. Being low on coolant
5. Bad 02 sensor
Hope this helps
