Ok, so after having returned the 88 civic i had bought ( returned cuz motor had water in it) i went ahead and got me a 89 civic dx. Now, when i bought it the guy told me it needed a tune up. I went ahead and did the following:
*Changed Motor Oil
*Changed oil filter
*Changed spark plugs
thats all i basically did. Once i was finish the light was still on. I doubt its missing anything else, or can it?
i have a stock engine. Will have pics tomorrow. Interior is fine, but the body needs work.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You need to find out Why the light is on before you just start spending money on diff things.Pull down the carpet on the pass side and see what codes it's blinking. Most likely it just in need of a new O2 senser.

Definitely get the code before you start wasting money on buying stuff you may or may not need, you will save alot of time, hastle, and money.

Do i need any kind of special tool to get a code? (im at school, so i cant pull the carpet out now.)
I will do that when i get home.
I was thinking it could be the timing belt. Like i said, i just got the car yesterday and i dont know if anything in it is good.
i will have pics when i get home.
P.S: Dont expect good quality shots

Just your muscles. Pull down the carpet and look at the red light that blinks on the ECU. Long blinks equals tenths, short blinks equal ones.
For example, 2 long blinks, and 2 short blinks is "code 22". But before that, you can try to reset the ecu by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for about 1 min. Sometimes that clears a code.

This doesnt apply to an 88-91.. You just count the blinks.. The codes range from 1 to 16..

Does that only apply to obd0 d-series ECUs?

Alright well, looking at the book ..
i think it has a problem with the airfilter. BUt im not going to worry about it, since i am going to put an air intake on it.
Hopefully it ends up being that and not anything else.
