CV joint/boot wear and tear?
I was wondering how hard will autocrossing be on your CV joint/boot assembly? Since you're constantly turning the wheel putting on a constant high cornering load on your axles, would it not be advisable to auto-x on a CV boot that has a miniscule tear?
Thanks in advance

fix the boot, then go to the autoX.
Christian, who knows how much of a mess CV boot replacement can be.

If your boot is torn and exposing the joint, the joint is just going to fail all that much faster. Fix it and forget it.
-travis, who found it was cheaper and easier to replace the whole axle.

Run it until it blows. You'll know when it lets loose.
Then go to the local autoparts store and get a new one. They aren't that much $$.

as someone who was constantly exploding cv's in an autocross environment, i can tell you first hand if you are making any real power make sure they are up to the task.
as far as axles, i have been using http://www.Raxles.com axles with great success.
they have been in the car almost a year now with no issues. suffice to say, i am impressed.

I am another that is running Raxles and have been very happy with them. They have great customer service and do not charge you up front core charges (They will charge you if you do not send your old axle back to them though).
As for the original question, I would go along with Todd, run until they rip then replace them.
Will you wear CV joints faster autocrossing? Yes. But not a significant rate. The most important thing is to make sure you are not exposing the joint to any grit having rips in the boots. I tend to check the boots every couple of events to make sure there are no rips.

You won't really feel anything, if you feel it, the CV joint is probably already dead. You have to get under the car now and them and look at the boots, make sure there is no oil on or around them. Move the boots around some when you inspect them, some holes can be very small and can be hidden some of the folds.

Yep, me too. I love the rotors, but not the axles.

my autozone axles lasted a week, both outer boots ripped, i tried to take them back under warantee and they told me it is only covered against breakage, not ripping the boots.

i took a look at them again and the outer cv on the drivers side is bad, im going to try again so i can at least have a usable extra set laying around. what a POS though.
