How do I check my 5 speed trans fluid?

How do I figure out the level of the fluid on my 89 5 speed civic trans? what type of fluid do I use? and how much from drain to fill?

there is a 17MM bolt right behind your passenger side axle, if you take it out, it should leak a little, and there is a bolt with a 17mm that you can remove from the tranny to drain it

Make sure you are on level ground too.
