Default changed timing belt, now car wont start

ok, today i snapped my timing belt, towed it to my friends house and ripped it apart, put a new timing belt and waterpump, timing looks about perfect, put everything back together cranked it, and it turned on, but died like 10 seconds later, i dont have much gas and the car is all jacked up and stuff so we put more gas, now it only cranks and does not turn over...

still have spark on all plugs and wires. but when we pulled the plugs they were mad black and ****. they were white before.

so if my timing is off, why would it have started in the 1st place? we're about to turn either the crank pully or the cam gear one whole time and back to tdc.

somebody helP!!!

i would put it back to tdc and check timing again, posbbily you forgot to torque the tension down and it jumped which is why it ran, jumped then died. i would do also do a compression test on the motor

ok well i got it running, but not well. i thought the tdc of the crank was the single line, but well its not... so i put that right and it started up and everything.

but now, when i try to go, it doesnt really go....it just kinda puts along then as the rpms rise it accelerates faster. so i guess ill mess w/ the timing alot tomorrow see if i can get it right.

any tips?

Hopefully you didn't do any damage to the valves.

yea like the other guy said double check the timing and do a compresion test to make sure you didnt bent any valves.

my valves are fine, i tested that, right when the belt broke my car turned off and i wasnt on the gas or anything when it happend, so hopefully it didnt mess anything up, but my valves seem fine. but as for the timing i just gota play w/ that after work today.

how did you test if the valves were fine ?

but if your car is stutter and running really bad, either yoru timing is off or you bent a valve, because either one will cause your car to run bad.

i still recommend to check timing again and then to do a compression test

Same thing happened once on a guys D16, the bad part was after it was torn down, it had bent 4 intake and 4 exhaust valves cause the timing was severely off. CHECK AGAIN

The belt is one tooth off. I've messed with the timing on my car and thats what is did. Putt putt putt and then all of a sudden it accelerates quickly. Turn the cam towards the front of the car. Should solve it.
