Tach hardly works

Default Tach hardly works

The stock tach in my 89 crx si hardly works at all, it jumps around alot and when im cruising at about 60 sometimes it will completly stop working, i cant take the car to redline cuz the tach jumps so bad that i never know what rpm im at. someone tell me what i can check too see if i can fix this?

ohh yea forgot to mention, we changed out the distributer and still have the same problem.

if you changed the distributor there is a high possibility the problem is in the cluster, get a wiring diagram and follow the wire and check for any loose connections or broken wires.

Now, when the tach is jumping, does the motor feel like it is jumping? When you say it won't go to redline, does it die before it, or you just cannot see it climb there?
