I need to replace the piston rings on my 90 Accord that I bought to fix and sell.
The head is off as is the oil pan and main cap, block still in car and I will not drop it due to time contraints).
1. How hard would it be for me to hone the cylinders myself yet still get the 60* cross hatching?
2. My dad picked up OE rings in standard size, will I need to take these back and get .25 over? I'm using the stock pistons.
3. Will I need to gap the rings? If so, what kind of file should I use?
4. What do I use to clean all of the metal flakes from the crank after I hone the cylinders?
5. Will lubricating the journals with motor oil get me by until the car is running? If not, what kind of lubricant do I use and where do I get it?
6. I took the head to school to replace the valve seals in auto shop but we ran out of time and couldn't get to it, while it was there, some Einstein took it apart enough to pull the cam out. After I replace the seals, can I use motor oil to lubricate the cam or will I need to use some kind of cam lubricant?
7. Once the engine is all back together, what would be the best way to get it in timing as my dumbass forget to make any hash marks and the crank has since been turned?
8. What are the torque specs for the rod bolts, main cap, and oil pan?
