quicker, base dc5 or ep3
I have a base DC5 now, i might be changin cars soon, just cause im the type that gets bored quick. I know the type s dc5 is an awesome car, and the base doesnt even compare to it in terms of performance. How abou the ep3 compared to the base? I know some engine parts are different and also i think the gearing is different. Hows does this different reflect in performance in 2 cars that are so similar? Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong but I know they have the same engines and I assume similarly geared trannies. But I think the EP3 is lighter.

i believe the engines are the same...but im pretty sure the DC5 base RSX is LIGHTER then the EP3 civic si. i think the weights have been discussed before.
dont let the looks of the hatchback fool you.

yeah they both run k20a3 engines.. and yes the ep3 is heavier than the dc5

yup but if it was a rsx-s.. it would be a whole diff story ;]

The K20A3 in the DC5 has a dual stage intake runner, so it will appear to have more torque off the line.
I do not know how this translates into a 1/4 or 0-60 time.
I know that in the EP3 you have to shift just before 60 miles per hour, so a 0-60 is not the car's forte.
I suppose that, in theory, if you are going to be modifying the car, the one-stage bigger intake on the EP3 version of the motor would lend itself well to modifications.
As far as the weight difference, I think it's negligible.
If you are building a track car, the EP3 will have a better polar moment of inertia, but the DC5 will appear to be better balanced to many people, because it will appear to take more input to rotate the car.

02-03 ep3s are lighter then base and type-s. 04s are heavier. 02-03 ep would take a base(not by much though) its got different gearing. if you reflash both with hondata the ep would also take the base because of better intake manifold(same as type-s)
Yup, the EP3 will be better in the long run after being reflashed because of the higher redline do to the intake manifold,
there for the EP is better for modding but both are good cars. One more thing, from what I've seen, EPs go for cheaper at the dealership. Around $16K from what people say, but the DC5 goes for $19K. So, if I had the choice and I didn't have a type s, I go with the EP.
