new to me Accord...give some INPUT here
Just got me a 2001 4cyl automatic accord.
Was just about to spend 40bux on a K&N drop in filter..cuz i will have the car a LONG time.
Then I wondered if that might not be the best idea.
Looks like i'll still be sucking hot air from under the hood with the stock airbox.
Any INPUT?
Any other things that should be done to a completely stock accord?
External tranny filter or cooler?
(i just relpaced my mx6 with this honda, the Tranny dumped on it and now I'm worried about keeping this one running perfect. That car NEEDED an external cooler)

Mild daily driver to performance daily driver-
1) K&N air hog drop in air filter
OR
2) Get a short ram. People will say cold air is better, but if you want to daily drive it and not worry about water coming in, a short ram is better. You can buy a cheap short ram on ebay, and use the piping and a K&N cone filter, or get an AEM, or Iceman intake, since these can be adjusted from short ram-cold air.
3) Get a nice exhaust. Apex'i World Sport II would be good, since it's quiet but a good performer, plus it's stainless steel.
With these, i've noticed a gain in horsepower and (the good thing nowadays) better MPG.
You can also replace the spark plugs and the o2 sensor (look at Bosch, they have a special if you buy them, you get a 20 dollar gas card, and they claim that a new o2 sensor gives you better mpg also).
Suspension- you can go basic (H&R OE sport and a front sway bar) to nuts (Tein coil overs, front and rear sway bars, new shocks).
If youre looking for more than that, turbo it, but watch it on an automatic tranny.
I have a 2000 Accord 4 cyl automatic, so we're in the same boat.

u wont gain power at all.....honda's airbox is desgined to be very efficient....though it will growl alot....
the thing with these little 4cyls is that theyre pretty much pushed to the max peformance from the factory (w/o turboing or replaceing actual ENGINE parts)....its not like an F250 turbo diesel where u can plug in some little controller into the ECU, and pump out another 150+ hp ant tq (saw it on TRUCKS today on Spike TV

Yea, I figure that you know what you'll gain. I was thinking more economical and fun than a true performance car.
Most people I work with on their cars just want a little bit extra and have their gas go a bit farther...
I'd say with an intake and exhaust youd make no more than 10 hp, more like 6. But on the butt dyno it's fun, and with the suspension upgrades, youll notice it's a blast to drive. Right now i'm swapping in a sway bar from an Acura CL type S. A front strut and rear sway does wonders for driving...you can take a turn much faster and tighter, with a good response.
The intake and exhaust will make you like to pretend youre badass
But alas, we have an accord. And worse, an automatic one
So, as you know, if you want real go fast parts, youre gonna want head work or a turbo.
Gas mileage is good though, and with the upgrades even better, that's Honda for you
