Changing the headgasket, remove the IM first?
Ok, just got a simple question for you guys out there.. I need to pull the head on my Prelude Si (h23) and I'm curious if it's faster/easier to remove the intake manifold with the head, without unbolting it from the head, or if it's faster/easier to just remove the intake manifold first like the helms manual says..? I'll most likely end up getting the head slightly milled, so the IM will need to come off, but I know it can be a SOB unbolting it from the head while the head is still on.
Also, I noticed alot of people seem to get valvejobs done when the head is removed.. Are there generally problems with the head like the valve seals, etc. or do people just do it because the head is off? This is just a daily driver for me, so as long as it's running well it's fine w/ me. Seeing as so many hondas like civics/accords go 150k+ miles w/o ever pulling the head I can't really see a valve job being worth it. Thanks.

I've always pulled the cylinder head with the IM. It seems easier and faster to me. If the head has to come off then you might as well change the valve seals because there's no use doing twice the work later. As far as getting a valve job... just have the machine shop inspect the head.
Why do you think it's worth changing the valve seals? Are prelude/h23 valve seals known to leak after a lot of time/mileage? Thanks.

Valves seal are don't cost that much... so you might as well change them. Depending on the mileage and your driving style...it can effect your valves seals.
Ya I know they don't cost much, but to have someone change them will not be that cheap. This motor has only ~75k miles on it, and considering I've seen many hondas reach 150k+ miles w/o ever touching the internals of the motor, it's probably not necessary. Thanks for your input.
