Default i/h/e questions.

<-- newbie

i figure i/h/e is a good place to start adding some pep to my D15 while i shop around for a D16 to rebuild.

intake - pretty simple i guess.. cold air / good airflow = good.

header and exhaust - so many choices, so many styles, ceramic, 4-2-1, blah.. same with mufflers, etc..

can any kind soul take a minute and explain what to look for in a header or exhaust system ? or maybe what to avoid ?

whatever i can keep when i swap out my D15 for a D16, i am willing to put $$$ into.. if i can't take any of it 'with me' for the D16, cheap is good.

thanks in advance.

For intake, I'd get an ebay intake & buy a K&N filter.

For a header, I'm assuming this is your daily driver so I'd stick with a 4-2-1, DC is a reputable company. If you have BIG $$$, and want better gains get a Bisi header.

Exhaust you can either get a universal muffler & have piping welded locally, or get a full cat back. I like the Apex'i WS exhaust b/c they aren't too loud, are reasonobly priced, and are quality.

Oh yea, search probably would've covered all of this.........

thanks for the help, it's very appreciated..

i've been trying to do searches on things i want to know about, but i dont know a lot of the terminology, so it's hard to find answers..

i've been doing well just going through page by page, though.. heh

in the exhaust part of it..

is it just a muffler that finishes the exaust part, or replacing everything from the header back, and doing other things ?

does it have to end up being really loud in order to get better gains ?

They call the exhaust a cat-back. That means it replaces all the piping and muffler from the cat converter to the back of the car.

no it doesn't have to be really loud to have better gains...just depends on what system you get...it only gets louder because the piping is bigger and depends if u have a silencer...
