Default $500 budget for header... what to get with this setup...

I have a 94 jdm B18C in a 99 civic hatch. I have an injen one piece CAI and 2.25" exhaust, SAFC, itr fuel pump, + FPR. I want to get a new exhaust manifold. I have a 500 maximum budget for that. I just ordered a Skunk 2 IM so that should be here in a week or two. By reading SO many posts, I gather that the Bisimoto header is the BEST money can buy. ( looks sick too ) I talked to Will at exospeed, and he said there is a 5 -6 week wait. And after thinking about it for a while I really don't wanna go that route because I plan to go turbo later down the road, but not for another year or two. So I want something that will be good in the mean time.

What about the Kamikaze, DC, Apexi manifolds? are they a decent upgrade from stock? I read that the Apexi jdm GT header is the best really, no the US version. Still that is at the top of my budget.

What kinda of stuff can you guys recommend for me?

for your budget, look for a DC JDM 4 to 1 header

I've had good results with my HeaderTech header on my JDM GSR motor. Only problem with HeaderTech at the moment is Enzo and Red have split up, so ordering a header is kind of hard. You can still get in contact with Enzo though. http://www.headertech.com

Dc Sports and "JDM" shouldn't be used in the same sentance, just buy the genuine Honda Type R header....you can't beat the performance of that header unless you spend quite a bit more.

actually DC has a header that is similar to the JDM 4 to 1, and they call it the DC JDM 4 to 1 header, the DC has better welds, and better ground clearance, so don't be so quick to make such a response

what about this one...

All GReddy headers are made from stainless steel mandrel bent pipes and investment casted flanges. Main power improvements are made by the design and placement of the collectors to even out the exhaust pulses. Large primary runners make it a solid choice for vehicles that will have higher horsepower modifications.

only $351.00

Our buddy has a Bisimoto header for sale, for a B series motor, not because it sucks but because he went turbo. I run the same header on my D series. Nice piece.

you're really wrong, you knwo that, right?

the JDM OE header is trash. Sure it was cool 2-3 years ago...but it's old news and can be outpowered for just a little more cash. The damn DC is better than the OE one too.

It all depends on what you plan on upgrading before you turbo. I know you said a yr or 2 but you need to decide what power band improvement you want to see....mainly b/c it wont be used eventually. I have a B18C1 and chose the 4-2-1 DC for reasons of I DONT HAVE A ITR MOTOR!!! when I upgrade cams, go from and Apexi comp. to a hondata then I will buy a high end piece....not before! I chose to put money into fuel rail, injectors, press. reg instead....think about it! I just dyno'd and I ran 204.1 whp and 155TQ

Dont' spend 500 on a piece that will be thrown out and spend 250 on a DC!!! spend the other 250 on some stuff to improve the overall set up....... 3 keys air, fire, gas.

I realize that Dc builds the "jdm style" header, but it's not jdm..thats what I'm gettin at. Everyone knows that Dc builds that design, and I beg to differ about the quality of the welds.....that DC header will break waaay before the oem honda one does.....

also the 4-1 piece is better for the 9k rpm engines and unless its a C5 the 4-2-1 will give much better overall gains, stronger pulls, much less wind up to get it to go.

DC's quality has supposedly been improved since AEM purchased them.....mine said on the box itself that it was "an AEM performance brand!"

What's the difference if it's "JDM" or not? The header is a direct-fit replacement for JDM ITR's (in terms of length and collector size), which is obviously where its name is derived from. The quality of the header is actually quite good (especially the collector) and compared with the Honda 4-1, it features larger primaries, a better-designed true 2.5" collector, and a cleaner flange without the messy internal welds. It also weighs significantly less, can normally be purchased for less, and has been shown to produce better gains than the OEM Honda piece. For the price, there simply isn't a better performing header. And in terms of durability, my ceramic-coated DC JDM 4-1 has been used on 3 different cars over the course of ~3 years, and has held up very well, without any problems at all.

Ignore the fool dissing the DC - if you know you are going FI later, getting anything other than the DC "JDM" 4-1 is just a waste of money. You can probably find a used one in the classifieds on this forum and save even more money.

Good luck with your project.
