automatic transmission question
hey this is for my friend,
eg coupe. automatic transmission. when accelerating normally the transmission might get stuck at like 4000rpms or so. if you continue to lightly give it gas it will fall back into gear. sometimes it won't. sometimes you have to pull over, put it in park and then it goes back to normal. any suggestions? thx

i believe all the gears are still there. if they aren't is that because the torque converter has gone bad or is it because the tranny's finished?
if all the gears are still there what should i tell my friend?

Do all stall test to test the converter out, put it in 1 and hold the brake, press the gas a little and see if the car moves do it in 2nd gear to, do not hold the brake and gas down for more then 5 seconds. Check the fluid to, it sounds more like a hydraulic problem.

so if the car moves right after you release the brake in 2nd it means that the torque converter is good right?
